That's the part that I keep getting stuck on. I can't help wondering
if the vet did what he did because he just couldn't bear to put the
cat down and felt it was a financial decision to do so. Note to the
OP- I'm *not* saying that that is why you decided to have the cat
euthanized, just that maybe the vet let his compassion override
things a bit.

Yep. Seems to be half of one thing & half of another, making it difficult
to come up w/ a clear-cut conclusion.
