Smudgie
chased a cat over our fence and kept on running. She has never been out
of
the garden before so I am super worried. I have been walking the streets
calling her name and shaking her food box but no luck. She is scared of
strangers so will not approach anyone for help. I have put leaflets thru
doors and on lamp posts etc. I am so worried and am hoping the "power of
the purrs" will help guide her home.

Thank you so much
Sharon

Sending more GYFBH purrs!

I KNOW she is nearby, and it's only a matter of time before she turns
up.

I am sorry to hear her collar came off. But, *so many* people know about
her, and you looking for her, that if somebody finds her who hasn't seen
a poster about her, *someone* will tell them where Smudgie belongs.

And, thank goodness, she *is* micro chipped, so if she gets taken to a
vet, or a shelter, they will find you.

I can only imagine how upset you must be.

And poor Smudgie! She must be terrified somewhere.

But, I *know* you will get her back, and it won't be very much longer.

Thank you so so much everyone, your positivity has kept me so encouraged
over the past few days. We have just come back from our "torch walk" and
bumped into another couple who are out looking for her for us! Most people
have been fantastic ... and then we bumped into one bloke who said "someone
has taken off her collar and kept her". That really was like a knife
through my heart .. but there is absolutely no way she would allow anyone to
do that though I'm sure. If they did get hold of her I'd like to think she
would treat them the same as she does her vet and bite/claw and scream her
head off (that's her B*tch Smudgie persona) lol.

So near yet so far I've even thrown my unwashed socks into bushes near
home in case she can get my scent, and walked back barefoot in case I leave
a scent for her to follow! I really thought today would be the day ....
maybe tomorrow ....

You have some really great neighbors!

(Pets often end up being social catalysts for people who don't know
their neighbors. One time I walked up to a group of my neighbors who
were standing on the street. I knew a few of them, and didn't know
some of the others. One person said, "This is Smudge's mom!" as a way
of introducing me. And a bunch of people I'd never seen before turned
to me and said, "Oh, *Smudge's* mom! Hello!" LOL. Now I know them all.)

and then we bumped into one bloke who said "someone
has taken off her collar and kept her". That really was like a knife
through my heart ..

Do you know this guy? Are you sure he's reliable? I wonder how he knows
this, yet doesn't know who it is. If you do know him, maybe you could
go ask him some more questions, such as who he got this information
from. Then maybe you could go ask *that* person who has her? (If this
is even true.)

Continued purring!

Joyce

Purrs are still coming that you will get her back very soon, although it
does concern me that her collar is still "done up"
When Boyfie loses his collar, which he does occasionally, if I find it it's
always "undone" but if hers had an elastic insert it's possible that it came
off done up, but that would usually be if she was up a tree and got caught
up, not on a pavement.
I don't know what to think, really. A cat collar which is still done up,
left on the pavement??
Can you get back to the man that found it, I think he may know more than he
is letting on.

And I want to echo another poster who said to look low and look close to

and quiet when scared.

More purrs....

We are closing in on her. A man found her collar nearby and brought it

distance, I know she is near to home. I walked past where the collar was

past 5 or so hours. I have put some worn socks into the bushes near to
home, hung my dressing gown over the back fence, and walked back from
where
the collar was found in my bare feet just in case it leaves a scent she
can
follow. I can almost hear her purr!

Good idea. Despite most people's beliefs, cats are not nocturnal, they are
crepuscular (meaning that they are most active at twilight - dusk and dawn
(they evolved in a desert environment)). So that would be the best times to
look for a lost cat (early morning being preferable since it would be
quieter and she'd be less intimidated.

I spotted Smudgie about 1.30 this morning from our back bedroom window
sitting right by the bin where I have put a sock! I stood for a minute to
make sure it was her then went down to our back fence with a torch. I
managed to look over and was calling her, she looked over but didn't move.
I grabbed her carrier and made my way quietly to where she was sitting and
called her again. She ran further away from me so I stopped and sat on the
road and kept calling her quietly. She then ran to another fence at the
back where there is a hole, stopped and turned as I called her again and
then went through the fence into the garden. I walked over to the hole and
kept calling her quietly but nothing. I left a trail of chicken from the
hole and across the roadway to our fence and came back indoors. I watched
out of the window for a while but couldn't see or hear anything. This
morning when I checked the chicken had gone but of course any other cat
could have eaten it.

I am so happy I have seen her for myself but now have the problem that she
wont come to me if I call her. This morning we are going to cut a section
our of our fence panel so she can come into the garden that way if she wants
to and borrow 2 traps from my local shelter. I will put one in our garden
and the other in the garden that she ran into if the owner doesn't mind (we
have spoken to him before and he seems amicable enough). Today I will
change her "Lost" posters for "Still Lost" posters with alternative photos
and put the word "Reward" in big letters!

Maybe today ......

Brilliant news! Revving up the purrs full volume - so near yet so far,
but don't give up, if you have seen her then you know she is OK, not
being held by anyone and not far away. Tempting her with food is a very
good idea, and once she will come for food you can use the live trap. Do
you have a litter tray she has used (ie. containing used litter)? Put
that somewhere she can smell it and close to the gap in your fence. Any
scent of home will help remind her where home actually is. Good luck -
persistence will pay off.
