Default Jellicle Ball Tribyoot to Gretchen Marie

Gretchen Marie was my little sunshine. She brightened my life
immeasurably from the day I adopted her at the age of ten weeks until
she departed for the Rainbow Bridge at 15-1/2 years. This cat was one
in a million and so was our relationship. Her affection, intelligence
and sense of humor made every day precious. She made me a far better
human being than I would have been on my own. The most important
quality she taught me was that of being yourownself. So many humans
want to be someone they aren't: more important, better looking,
richer, younger, taller, etc. We seem to have difficulty accepting
that being our own best selves is enough. Gretchen Marie never wanted
to be bigger or have more beautiful fur or be a galloping horse or a
graceful dolphin or even a lion or tiger. She was always herself--a
cat. She celebrated that and bestowed our world with her perfect
cat-ness.

The container which now holds her ashes has the following saying on it:

Herewith are deposited the ashes
of one who possessed beauty without vanity,
strength without insolence,
courage without ferocity and
all the virtues of human beings without their vices.
This praise, which would be unmeaning flattery
if inscribed over human ashes,
is but a just tribute which makes one grateful
to now have the privilege
of the happy memories left behind
by this pet.

I am so very grateful for all that she was and continues to be in my
heart.

sobs-- that was truly beautiful, Arlene. Siggy's ashes are still on my
mantel too. I keep thinking we should sprinkle them over the ivy he liked
to romp in, but somehow haven't done it. It is amazing how some cats are
just soo great. Gwen used to sing "You are my sunshine" to him all the
time. At TED's office, on the way to the RB, she sang that in his ear. I
think he heard it.

Anyway, I am happy that you and Little Kitty have found each other.

sniff That was wonderful, Arlene. I know how difficult and
heart-rending it is to write these Tributes but there's always a sense
that they are *worth* every tear and every bit of grief. You've
honored Gretchen Marie with your loving words, and she deserved it.

Thanks. When I received her ashes, I felt she was home with me again
and it was quite comforting and I feel her little spirit around me and
my new roommate all the time.

I have told my friends and family that GM's ashes are to be buried with
me and if they forget they have to dig me up and put her in there. I
have put some of her favorite things in the container: mousie, ball,
plastic twist tie and a rubber finger.

Oh, yes, jGM and Dyna were very busy and active kitties in rpcc. GM
always admired Dyna's sense of style and her stamina for shopping at
the mall. GM only talked to you a few times, but she was impressed.
Didn't you invent something special this past year?
