(Snork) Brrrrrr. It's here since about 10 last night and non-stop,
LOL.
Lovely day in MileHigh.

I was trying to get pics of the big snowplows in action for
those of you who have never seen such a sight (me for one till
five years ago) but many of the live cams here are just black or
covered with snowflakes and ice so no views at all.

Don't tell me about your rain. Rain I grew up with and drive
great in. Not snowstorms. Plows, where are you?

It looks like more is on the way -- the barometer has fallen even lower.
My son got a good three inches last night by 9pm -- we got none down
here. TuTu still in front of the heat register. MLB

Much too warm for snow, almost shorts weather.

Always unpredictable. Now we are told Indian Summer will be here in a
few days with elevated temperatures. *I guess we needed this cold spell
to make the leaves fall off the trees. MLB

This is all so totally unfathomable to me...is Indian Summer when they
have
all the Harvest Festivals here? They already had those last month and
Sept.
As for the leaves....where I live the trees are all bare and norror-
movie ugly,
but here in MileHigh I can look outside and there still are big trees
full of
leaves, not to mention the red colored big bushes (another mystery to
yours
truly! Why *red* leaves? And why didn't *they* drop off? LOL)
This is still going on - the snowing, that is - it has iced as well
and there is
well over a foot outside.
The only comfort is seeing the dog walkers out there and knowing that
unlike
my former FL nuclear-powered source (affectionately called Florida
Plunder &
Loot aka FL Power & Light) outages are much rarer here so at least we
can
live like hoomins while stuck indoors.

Every winter I see strange (to me) sights. I am looking at one right
now.
When at another relative's house a block from here, over the years I
have
noticed several houses that have "doors to nowhere" at the upper back
of
the several-story home. That relative's house rear faces another group
of
homes on other side of an alley, their fronts face the next street.
I never figured out what the "doors to nowhere" were for till just
now. I am
watching some dude vigorously shoveling snow off roof, which he got
onto
from one of these doors on the main house, of his smaller either
carriage
house or addition cottage in what would be his back yard. It is icy
outside
and I hope he doesn't slip off and fall. The really kinky part of this
is that
there is a strong wind *still* blowing snow from the north going on
and my
fuzzy opinion, right or wrong, is that what he is doing is like
cleaning up
your backyard when you go out in the hurricane's eye before the other
side of the deadly doughnut hits. Like, wacko. He has not fallen yet
whick
leads me to believe maybe be has on shoes with cleats or similar. Or
maybe he does this frequently.....who knows?

IMHO probably used to have a porch or balcony there.
(Or perhaps it really was a door into summer). MMLB

I have heard that, in some northern climes where the snow regularly
drifts above the first story, that some houses have an upstairs door for
walking atop the snow drifts. The snow would have to develop quite a
hard crust on top, however, before you could walk on it. Otherwise, you
would simply find yourself at the bottom of a deep hole in the snowdrift.

I take it, then, that you've never been to the Winchester Mystery House?

Talk about your doors, windows, stairs, and all sorts of crazy things
leading to nothing.

Not sure where everybody is talking about, but these were common in
merchants' houses in many parts of Europe. They'd use an upper floor
as a store room and the door was for a small crane used to transfer
stuff between there and the street. They became less common after
the 18th century.
