I've got Smudge inside for the night
She's in my bedroom right now with food, water and litter box, and
that is where I plan to keep her for the night. There's a lot of activity outside, although right now it's mostly little kids and their parents walking around, which I don't think would be any threat to a cat. But later in the evening, older kids go out and I'm a little more worried about them. To some kids, Halloween means play scary pranks on people and maybe animals too - whoever's available - and it might include hurting them. I don't know, but I'm not going to take a chance. When I first got home this evening from errands, Smudge was around, so I put down her dry food. Then I went upstairs to put stuff away, when suddenly I heard a loud, very Halloween-like cat screech. I ran down, worried that some kid was tormenting her, but nope, she was just giving a hard time to Graham (one of he neighborhood cats) because he was after her food. But I decided to bring her inside right then anyway. Meanwhile, I had bought some candy, and then I went looking around my apartment for something vaguely Halloweenish. Aha! I have an iron statue of a cat with a hollowed-out head where you can put a candle. The eyes are also hollowed out, and I happened to have an orange candle. Voila - I now have a cat with glowing orange eyes out on my porch. That got me two doorbell rings! Joyce I had trouble with "the round-up" this evening, and Halloween really wasn't a factor, we're too far out in the country for that. But I go out and gather Boots and Frank every evening before dusk. They played every trick in the book to avoid coming in. The weather was beautiful, and it was nearly a full moon. Boots played "chase me." That's when she lets you *almost* touch her, then she sprints off. A variation of this is "chase me under the car." I finally got mad at her, brought Frank in and shut the door. Lo and behold, nearly immediately I saw her silhouette in the window. Silly cat. Sherry |

Halloween was unusually quiet this year - hardly any fireworks. But a heck of a lot of little girls in cute witch outfits with ghoulish facepaint (mainly because there had been a lot of those in the shops this year, I guess). If Halloween is going quieter that's fine by me. ==== j a c k at c a m p i n . m e . u k === http://www.campin.me.uk ==== Jack Campin, 11 Third St, Newtongrange EH22 4PU, Scotland == mob 07800 739 557 CD-ROMs and free stuff: Scottish music, food intolerance, and Mac logic fonts ****** I killfile Google posts - email me if you want to be whitelisted ****** |

My son said they had 35 visitors that kept the dogs barking. When I was a child, I had a small half mask only (and was happy with that). We visited neighbors to "scare" them but there were no treats. I remember my father fixing a pumpkin with a battery and little light because candles were dangerous. Some kids had a sheet draped over them to look like a ghost. MLB |
