Yes, going barefood doesn't cause calluses, it's wearing shoes that
does. I arrived in Thailand with plenty of calluses, but after 5
years of wearing nothing but flip flops, I have no calluses at all.

Interesting! I figured that direct exposure to bumpy or rough surfaces
would cause your feet to develop calluses to protect the skin, in the
same way that playing the guitar causes you to develop calluses on
your fingers. It never occurred to me that the opposite would happen.

There's a lot more rubbing of your foot against the inside of the shoe
than of a bare foot against a flip flop, I guess.

Agreed. Sometimes it's fun to play around with nail polish, makeup,
clothes etc. I would be annoyed if I were EXPECTED to do it, but if
I FEEL like it, I'm not going to deny myself something enjoyable
simply because it might "give me a girly image."

I wonder if the annoying men who expect nail polish on "Their"
women, (snip)

LOL! That's pretty much my attitude. As I get older, the less I like the
artificial colours and especially the smells of nail polish and other
makeup.
