I know this to be false - Apache can identify the exact shade of purple that her favourite cat treats box is, and has been confused once or twice when I've bought something else that was that shade. I'd always heard this, too, and don't really believe it. In all fairness, though, even if the collars were identical in color there are a couple other small differences. Both collars have engraved name tags with my phone number, and they're different shapes. (Luckily, Sammy doesn't seem to realize that hers is shaped like a d*g bone, but at the time that was the only blue tag to match the collar.) And, Little Bit's is a little wider. -- Steve Touchstone, faithful servant of Sammy, Little Bit and Rocky [remove Junk for email] Home Page: http://www.sirinet.net/~stouchst/index.html Cat Pix: http://www.sirinet.net/~stouchst/animals.html |

A little while ago, during a brief break in the clouds, the sun came out for a few minutes. Little Bit wanted to check and see if any of the neighborhood cats on been around, so I decided I'd put on the girls collars and let Sammy and LB out while I smoked a cig. LB and Sam only wear their collars when I take them out. They come running when they hear the tags jiggle, and wait patiently while I put them on. I grabbed the collars off the hooks, and the girls came and stood by the door. I bent down to put a collar on LB while she looked outside and waited patiently. Sammy reached up and wrapped her paws around my hand. I was about to put the blue collar on her mom. The look she gave me obviously said that everyone knows momma wears the red one, the blue belongs to Sammy. I quickly realized my mistake, and put the collars on appropriate necks, and we went outside. Unfortunately, a couple minutes later the brief sunshine diasppeared and it started sprinkling again. -- Steve Touchstone, faithful servant of Sammy, Little Bit and Rocky One smart cookie!! Yes, I've read that not ALL cats are color-blind (as dogs are). I think most of them are, but every once in a while one does something that pretty clearly indicates he/she can perceive color. |

"Marina" had some very interesting things
to say about ! Hey that's mine!: A former co-worker of mine had a cat who only ate red flowers. She could have any other colour flowers in a vase, but if she brought in red ones, the cat ate them. It didn't matter what kind of flowers they were. Avery [my ringneck dove, for those who don't know] was once seen furiously pecking away at the one red button on a remote control. He gets a fruit-flavored birdie snack as a treat that has red, orange, yellow, and green pieces. I listed the colors in the order in which he eats them. :-) -- "Don't mess with major appliances unless you know what you are doing (or unless your life insurance policy is up-to-date)." - John, RCFL |
