I understand that some folks just don't have the means to take care of
them, but then turn them into some organization so they get some care.

I'm pretty sure my beloved cat Persia (RB) was abandoned. She had been
front declawed and spayed so she certainly lived somewhere else before
she showed up at my back door demanding I let her inside. I took her in
and put up fliers, called the area vets and shelters, no one had
reported her missing. Their loss, my gain. But what would have
happened to her if I hadn't taken her in? She was not equipped to deal
with living "free". She had 13 good, very pampered years with me.

Too many people (still) regard pets as things, rather than living
beings. My friend with a small farm in the North Woods resort area of
Minnesota knows that every fall she will be trying to find homes for
lots of abandoned pets (mostly cats). The summer people get them as
"toys" for their kids, then abandon them when they return to the cities
when summer is over. Cats may have better luck becoming feral than dogs
do, but even though hunting may be instinctive, unless they have a
mother cat to teach them those critters are food, they have no idea what
to do with them once they catch them!

I ate a bison burger years ago. Actually, they called it "beefalo" -
seems it was a cross between some sort of bison or buffalo and beef. I
wasn't impressed, either.

I love venison though.

unless it
was medically essential.

The only declaws in the UK I know of personally- were for a cat with a deformed foot where the claws has to be removed as they grew into the pad and caused repeated infections. And one where a friends cat had one claw removed because of tumour on the terminal phalange but just that one

I did once ask my vet about declawing and she said if she had to do it for medical reasons she would have to look it up prior to surgery and it would be an American textbook as it's not in UK ones

I like venison, too, although I haven't had any for many years. I also
enjoyed elk steaks with a friend whose boyfriend hunted but that was
many years ago.

There is a restaurant here that serves elk burger.
Can't remember whether I had it.
If I did, it certainly didn't leave me any impression, whether good or bad.
Or maybe I was just too busy chatting with my friend while eating.

There used to be a famed French restaurant here that served venison.

The local market sells bison meat. I am tempted to try, but not sure how
to cook it.
Rabbit meat is also available, probably because of the large French Canadian
population in town.

Do you think that your cat has a soul? Do you think that all animals
have one? I think they do, so I am asking myself why the hell am I
eating meat?

Rabbit is not very popular in the US but yes, I've actually cooked and
eaten it. When I still lived in west Tennessee one supermarket sold it
cut up and frozen, like packaged chicken. Come to think of it, it
pretty much tasted like chicken.

I honestly cannot remember what it tasted like. It was at least 20
years ago when I had the elk steak.
