When I got my last degree, after mucho BST, on the day of my
commencement, they were running low on hoods.
After I was hooded, some of the staff came running to me and said
"Theresa, Theresa, can we borrow your hood?"

I grabbed it and did my Chalton Heston imitation: "FROM MY COLD, DEAD
HANDS." :P

(I actually ended up letting them borrow it )

Geez. The staff should have just gone hoodless. They probably get to
go through commencement every year, but you get that degree only once.

BTW, if I were getting your degree, I probably would have gone to
commencement, because your getup was probably cool. I imagine you
were wearing lots of stripes and bars, piping, long sleeves, and
perhaps medallions, ribbons, ceremonial mace, and crown, with pages to
carry your train and the coat-of-arms representing your department.

I'm counting the days ... er....weeks...no months...OMG years...until
I can retire.
For what it's worth, you both have my sympathy, along with everyone who
is unemployed, underemployed, or otherwise frustrated in their effort to
move forward in their life. I feel very lucky to be retired.
