Killfiles are imperfect instruments, IMO. First off, when you decide to
drop someone in your killfile you have forever judged their opinions on
all topics never to be worth reading. That may be wise in some cases but
not all. Secondly, in heated debates even if you've killfiled someone,
you'll be reading their posts in someone else's post, that I'll guarantee
you.

This is completely false. This depends on the newsreader. Mine permits
me to kill just the posts by an individual, or both the individual's
posts and all followups, or subthreads regardless of who the posters
are, or posts with a certain keywords in body or headers, or based on
the crossposting, or ...

You also have to allow for people barely know how to use a newsreader
and don't even know how ( or have the capability ) to kill threads or
use a killfile. Ever heard of AOL , Web TV etc.

Users of AOL and similar services have the option of using their AOL
connection and the newsreader software of their choice to access either
a free or commercial news server.

There are many groups that have custom robomoderators. This works well
in if you can find highly computer literate people who are willing to
moderate. The reason I suggested Ready Stump is because anybody can
use it.

Anyone can use my software, and what's more, I have yet to charge anyone
for using it. Igor's rates, while probably fair, could entirely pay for
my network connection expenses with only one or two groups. I'm
currently hosting, let's see, 26 Usenet groups, and one uk.* group,
coving a wide range of moderation styles from full hand moderation to
full robomoderation, and many points inbetween.

I'm sure I could find room for a cats group, at something of a discount
to what Ready STUMP would be costing...
