Default Dave goes for it! (OT)

I'm not going to try and add this to the longer post

Last night Dave said he fancied just popping down to the "Bells" for
an hour to get some fresh air

then he said I wouldn't like it but he wanted to pick up a prostitute
and have sex with her in the bar I said "Yeah really?" He does this
when he wants to tell me something I won't be keen on

He then revealed what he wanted to do- he wanted to walk to the pub
and back without a crutch.I said okay I can just carry it in case you
need it and he insisted that we had to leave it at home. He said he
had to try and I said I'd just carry it then but he said no, he was
going without. In the end, I said if he got stuck it's only as far as
the "Bells" and I could run back and fetch it

We had a nice hour or so in the pub and Dave walked there and back
without a crutch! Got him a free drink off Colin, our genial host, who
has been following his progress avidly and when he walked in, greeted
him with "No crutch! Fantastic! I remember when you were in a
wheelchair" (One of the wheels has fallen off so Dave is now using an
old office chair)

Progress!

Mind you his legs are very stiff today!

That's fantastic, Lesley! It's those milestones in recovery that make it
possible to go on.

Last night was even better- he had been grumbling about the kitchen floor
needing doing so I got out the mop and he said "But you never get it as clean
as I do" and did it and the bathroom floor himself!

I do get it as clean as he does but I wasn't going to disagree

Awesome news!

Yup, sometimes you have to leave your crutches behind, and just see
whether you stand or fall on your own. With Dave, its a very literal
crutch, but many if not all of us have been in the same situation, and
just had to try what it was like, even if it meant risking falling on
our arses.

If you run out of things for him to do, I got 13 windows that could use a
wash! Really am glad for him, and you, that things are looking more
positive.

Now that is promising!

Charlie and I spend far too much time hoping the other one will catch
up with the cleaning.

That and trying to redistribute household chores by default.

You know the kind of minor things that couples take on when everyone
is fine, but one does if the other isn't feeling well.

When he feels good, he cleans off the kitchen counters thoroughly
every day whether they need it or not. Lately he just bitches about
them.

I'm not all that receptive as I am not doing so well keeping up with
'my' chores either.
