Purrs for a Cat, believed to be at the Bridge, and his human
A fire started accidentally yesterday in an apartment building for
seniors and the disabled. Fortunately, the woman in whose apartment the fire started called the fire department, and she and a number of other people confined to wheelchairs were rescued by two young men who happened to be passing by and noticed the smoke. But before the fire department arrived, the smoke became too thick for them to make further attempts at rescue - and the cat hasn't been seen since. They interviewed the poor woman this morning. Really, it's so heartbreaking; I don't know why the media put people through this. She feels terribly guilty for having dropped the cigarette that started the fire, and has lost everything (although the other apartments have smoke damage). She doesn't have tenant's insurance - a lot of people don't bother or can't afford it. But most of all, she's grieving for her lost cat. The rescuers said they had to stop her from trying to get back in the building when she realized her cat hadn't gotten out. Purrs for her and her fellow-tenants and the cat - and congratulations to the young men! You hear so much about young people who get into trouble; it's inspiring to know that some of them are heroes! Cheryl Prayers and purrs going out to the seniors and disabled people affected by the fire. I'm not giving up hope for the kitty to be alive quite yet. I've heard cases of cats being so frightened by traumatizing events such as fires, that they hide and miraculously survive. Sorry, but I'm an optimist! Debby Hanoka dhanoka at gmail dot com. |

Purrs going out to all the tenents and purrs for the cat that it went quick and did not suffer too much. There are lots of debates over the anti-smoking laws but I would never rent in an apartment building that allowed smoking for just this reason!! Which is more important - one persons right to smoke or several others lives they might loose or their worldly goods they might loose because of someone causing a fire from smoking?!?!? By the way I do smoke myself before someone bring it up. Only a couple a day but I do smoke. Purrs heading her way - I can only imagine the pain she must be feeling right now. Purrs are on the way.
