What would happen to the island of Guam if some additional thousands of
troops were to be stationed there? That's what worries Hank Johnson, a
member of the U.S. House of Representatives. He is part of the House
Democratic leadership, elected by the Democratic caucus to serve as whip for
Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida and serves on the House Armed
Services and Judiciary committees.

I thought it was obvious when I first heard this that he was trying to joke
about the island tipping over. The part that concerned me was not his
attempt at a joke. Rather, it seemed to me that he can hardly put two words
together and his "leadership" seems questionable. Frankly, people from both
parties have tripped when trying to be "clever"--especially when making
off-the-cuff remarks--and I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt
with these attempts at jokes unless they are clearly racist or outrageous.
I would not put his attempt in that category.

Its reasurring to see there are inarticulate people with bizarre notions all
around the world and on all sides of politics.

His later point about whether such a small island could support a sudden
increase in population was entirely valid, though.
