Default my cats dream of days like this

Our temps have gone up to almost 70 degrees! The windows are open, the
trees and grasses are just now wakening, and the days are getting a tad
longer...

Suppose to be this weather all week. Yeah!

My cats accompanied me to the mailbox this morning after much coaxing and
were rolling around on the cement walkway, sniffing the air and feeling very
frisky. They are both indoor-only cats, but like a roll on the walkway and
a little trip to the backyard supervised. It is so nice... Spring, that is.

We came back indoors after they were so scared of things and within 2
minutes they were chasing each other around the condo like kittens. They
are 9 years old, brothers.

Exhausted, I got a meow from both as they climbed back onto the bed and
nestled together.

Yay! Sounds *loverly*.
The crocuses are sticking their little heads up out by the driveway. I planted
them there a long time ago on purpose because I get so depressed in Feb. it's a
reminder that winter *isn't* going to last forever.

Uh....what are crocuses? All that comes to my mind are "crotons" (a common
yard bush here) but I doubt they're related. And does it bloom in winter
there? Do you have a pic of them?

Mine are starting to bloom this week. I also have daffodils getting
ready to bloom, and my forsythia has started blooming.

Wow. I'm glad I looked this up. I didn't know there were so many varieties
available.

Most common here are the snow crocus. They are small bulbs that are often
planted in the grass, and are the first thing to bloom in the spring.
Usually yellow, white or purple. They will often bloom while the snow is
melting.

Aha...I've seen these things.....not growing here, but white ones at local
funerals (LOL). And all these years I thought they were tulips! You gotta
admit, they look like tulips....sorta. Ho,
the Floridian learns (again) something new. You ever want to know anything
re hibiscus, lemme know: you won't see hibiscus in Oregon, I think. But
something that grows here that I saw frequently in northern CA was
bouganvilla (sp.?); also roses.

I'm guessing that if you thought they were tulips, they were. A crocus is
much smaller and much shorter than a tulip. Sometimes only 2 or three inches
tall. Like most bulbs and corms they prefer colder winters.

Our temperature got up to 65 today. I gave the cats a treat by opening a
window on the porch for them. They had their noses pressed up against the
window screen.

Denise VanDyke had some very interesting
things to say about my cats dream of days like this:

Which part of Oregon? I grew up on the south-central coast.

Willamette Valley. Land of many kinds of grass pollen. And tree
pollen. And nasty red mud. And beautiful mountains, forests, and so on.
