Barnabus at emergency vet tonight
The only thing I've heard regarding litter is the problem of cats not liking
the new litter and pee outside the box. I try to avoid litter with a lot of dust, not only do I have to breathe it, but the cats actually ingest it when they clean themselves. Healing purrs are continuing. -- Hugs, CatNipped See our clowder at: http://www.PossiblePlaces.com/CatNipped/ See the RPCA FAQ site, by Mark Edwards, at: http://www.professional-geek.com/rpcablog/ "Julie_Snowshoe" wrote in message ... Another update.... After 3 hours I drug him out from under the couch and cuddled him a minute then put him back into the kennel. I changed the litter from Fresh Step to World's Best. He went into the litter box and peed an area about the size of a half dollar then got out and yes licked himself but I imagine he's still sore. He didn't cry. I've covered the litter area of his kennel so he can go without everyone watching him. A few minutes later he went back into the box and had a poo. I want him to stay in the kennel tonight so I can monitor his output over night. Hopefully he'll settle down soon. Right now he's mewwing and pacing. It may be a long night. Question - and this is simply anecdotal question from one friend to a group of friends. When Sam was alive we had switched to World's Best litter because there was less dust. When he died we decided to go back to Fresh Step litter. Although we have one box that still has World's Best in it the other five have Fresh Step. Anyone have any anecdotal evidence that a change of litter could cause a problem like this? Julie and Barnabus |

Barnabus at emergency vet tonight
It has been over 24 hours since Barnabus came home. He stayed in the
kennel all day today and he peed a good bit. Tonight we let him out and he's been resting comfortably. I've seen him drink, eat, take a bath and sleep. His breathing is slow and regular, he doesn't seem to be in any distress so for the moment we seem to be in a good place. I just hope we can hold onto this long enough for him to truly get better. Thank you all for your purrs and prayers, they really have helped! julie and barnabus |

How much water WAS: Barnabus at emergency vet tonight
she said it doesn't matter what they get as long as its right for that cat,
she said teeching the skin pull test for hydration is a must in her practice, if they are hydrated then they are fine, some cats like people require more due to activity level and temp of where they live, her eccomendation is make the 30 ml available but don't freak if you test and they are hydrated, she also cautioned that like with people, too much water can cause vomiting and elctrolite, sp imbalance. Lee "cshenk" wrote in message ... "Storrmmee" wrote i think you are fine doing this, btw i recently asked my vet a cat specialist just exactly how much should a cat drink a day, she said that since they garner moisture from ALL sources of food where moisture is present, the standard answer is that they reccomend what is protocol for an IV and that is 30 ml per pound so again as i said before, this is so very individual by the cat there simply are no hard and fast rules Humm! That's more than I would have thought. 1 TB is 15ml so Daisy is only getting 45ml with her broth nooner. Thats like 1.5 cups a day for 30ml per lb here (360 ml). Could be that's due to IV's used when they are needing to be being super saturated ;-) Either way, it's almost nooner time here. 2 ziplock baggies are sitting in hot water in the sink defrosting. I also slivered off some bits of a pot roast defrosting for dinner. I'll split 1 warm bag between the pooches and pull out 3 TB for Daisy out of the other then save the rest for use with the pot roast. |

i read a lot for education ahead as it were his site and the cornelle site
are two i refer to often, Lee "CatNipped" wrote in message ... Yeah, they do have a *LOT* of cr*p going on over there so I don't read there much. Do not ever make the mistake of asking that group about a sick cat that hasn't been brought to a vet yet - a flame retardant suit would not be enough protection. ; But if I'm having a cat problem my vet can't seems to be able to fix (happily, my new vet hasn't failed me) I either go to Phil's site or ping him on that group. He's super busy - he takes care of something like *THIRTY COLONIES* of feral cats. He lives in the New York tri-state area - so it might take a while for him to answer an email. -- Hugs, CatNipped See our clowder at: http://www.PossiblePlaces.com/CatNipped/ See the RPCA FAQ site, by Mark Edwards, at: http://www.professional-geek.com/rpcablog/ "Storrmmee" wrote in message ... it got rough enough over there the good information was out weighed by the noise so i had to unsub, Lee "CatNipped" wrote in message ... "Storrmmee" wrote in message ... i mam sorry but this is just NOT a one size fits all thing, to get wound up in trying to figure out what is best for all cats leaves the door open to not do what is best for an individual cat, but i think if your cat has issuewith grain any food without them is better for them, Lee wrote in message ... catlady wrote: Yep, done *SO* many times that it's even in our FAQ. I work for a vet and we don't sell or recommend dry food for cats. Virtually all the cats we see for urinary tract issues are eating dry food and the first thing we do is switch them to an all wet, *grain free,* *fish free* diet. We rarely have repeat customers. See http://www.catinfo.org for an excellent overview of why dry food is bad for cats and why a strictly wet diet is the best thing for them. I have a question about this. In the pet food store where I shop, they sell a brand of dry food that says it is grain free. It's called "Instinct" from Nature's Variety. Since it's grain free, wouldn't it be safer than dry food with grain in it, and maybe even safer than wet food with grain? on that note, the one Jill reccomended cats pride is great, they have a non
chem/perfume one that is just wonderful, we now have "the breeze" system for here in the hotel, might stay with it when we get back into a house, Lee "CatNipped" wrote in message ... From my single blockage incident with Espy I can telll you that there is a good chance that it will never happen again. Or, at least it's been over a year and hasn't reoccurred. And the older they get, the less likely to reoccur. It's funny though. Yesterday Espy wouldn't eat dinner which was the BFF red can, not his favorite by far. But usually he eats some of it. The other cats all ate it. Any time one doesn't eat is some cause for concern. I decided that Espy also looked a bit unhappy and was breathing very quickly. So I picked him up (he HATES that) and felt around the bladder area to see if I could feel it. He HATES THAT even more. But I felt nothing and a little later he was happy to eat most of a can of Fancy Feast so nothing appears to be wrong. Still, once that blockage happens, we're very sensitized to it. |
