Default Talking to your cat?

Do you talk to your cat? By this, I don't mean calling the cat or
being purry and smoochy (we all do that). What I mean is telling your
cat things like you'd speak to a person.

For example, when I feed my cat and he (like many cats) temporarily
turns up his nose at the dish, I tell him "Hey, pal, you'd better eat
this good food. Think of the poor starving Armenian kitties out there.
I may just send it to them."

Or, if it's late and he wants to go out on the balcony on his leash,
"No, you can't go out. It's dark and cold and all the sensible kitties
are already tucked into their little beds by now. So settle down and
let's watch a movie."

Funny stuff like that.

But of course!

I always talk to the kitties. And I do believe that they fairly often
understand me.

Of course, to cats and ferrets alike. And the worst thing is that sometimes
I think I'm starting to sound just like my mother talking to us when we were
small...........

What, you mean like: "No Jasper, you can't go out. It's after nine at
night and we have work tomorrow, and that means getting a decent night's
sleep and not staggering out of bed at some ungodly hour to let you in"?

Or: "Now Jasper, it's time for you to go downstairs. You know the
rules."

Nah ... of course we don't .... that'd be silly .....

All the time, they are family members! And some of the time, they *talk
back*! Too bad I don't speak the language of the Mothership......but it's
enough to know they love us.

Talk to them all the time. Also sing made up songs to them. I don't think
they necessarily understand me, but they do respond to the sound of my
voice - and even though Weeble is only 15 weeks old, he already knows the
sound of his name. Also the sound of his food bin opening/closing and the
sound of food hitting his dish!

All the time! Most of the time they know exactly what I'm saying, but
they often choose to do the opposite of what I ask... ;-)
