How is Roxy today? Did you get to see the vet?

Her eye is still in very bad shape.

I brought her to a local animal hospital tonight, and had an appointment
with their "top vet" (their term). He certainly did seem like he knew
what he was doing. First thing he said was that he wasn't certain her
problem is due to herpes at all. Not that she doesn't have it, but that
this is caused by something else. He thought she might have an abcess
in her tooth or elsewhere near her eye, and it's causing the conjunctiva
to bulge out and cover her eye. He doesn't think it's necessarily a
problem with her eye itself (although he won't know until he has a good
look).

He also said it could be a tumor. (!!) I certainly hope not, but I will
worry about that if it comes to that.

In either case, it doesn't seem like an eye specialist is called for
right now. At this point, the goal is to find out what's causing this
symptom, and treat that.

He's going to anaesthetize her tomorrow (after getting a full blood
panel) so he can probe around in there without hurting her. Tonight,
he put some local anaesthetic in her eye, but she still wouldn't let
him poke around too much. I didn't think she was in a lot of pain,
because she lets me touch her near that eye and doesn't flinch at all.
But he made a point of saying, "Oh, that hurts. She's in pain." Of
course we all know that cats hide their pain, and Roxy's not a
complainer. It's upsetting to know she's been suffering while I've
been struggling to get her seen by someone who knows what to do.

So I've left her at the hospital overnight so they can start examining
her first thing tomorrow. I will pick her up tomorrow night after work.

It's been very stressful, and I'm worried. But also relieved that she
is finally getting a decent exam. I should have brought her there
first!

Thanks for asking. I'll try to post tomorrow when I have more info.

Joyce, I haven't seen all of Roxy's story, but it sounds like she's in
good hands now. I'm glad that vet has some good ideas about what to
check and is going to help her right away.

My fingers are crossed that it's something fairly easy to treat, and
that both of you can relax soon.

That sounds like you may be getting somewhere. I was thinking something else
might be up, as they normally repond quickly to antibiotics. Purrs being
sent that they find and fix the problem quickly....poor Roxy!
