I don't know if anyone else follows the game but this was indeed memorable by any standard. Can Smarty be an honorary cat? Karen I missed it but I understand my cousin's troop never made it to the race. I vote for Smarty to be an honorary cat and I hope to read why. Because he is as cool as a cool cat. Karen LOL. Racing in the UK is a three year old called One Cool Cat :^) He was well-backed for yesterday's 2000 Guineas but sadly, didn't finish in the first three . Sheenah |

This was the *only* Derby race I've missed watching in decades, and I go back a long way. Had another appointment and by the time I got home they were taking the official photos. Smarty was the only horse I had in mind as a winner and it sounds like he did it in great style. Wish I'd seen it!!! As an aside, though there have been great horses and great races, Secretariat is still my all-time favorite, despite the likes of Seattle Slew, etc. Top horse in *my* book - I can still get chills and tears when I think of Big Red romping down the Belmont Stakes track 31 lengths ahead!!!! I am always glad they finish big bucks races like that without breaking any of their skinny little legs (that goes for both men and beasts). Not much into equines anyway, I prefer the fat hairy ones with big legs and feet that pull beer wagons; for some reason they look healthier and calmer, if not faster and prettier. But kowabunga, congrats to Smarty Jones; may he live long and prosper. Have you heard the song "The Last Trip Home", written by Davy Steele and performed by the Scottish musical group called the Battlefield Band (http://www.battlefieldband.co.uk)? It is a bittersweet song about a plowman, or rather ploughman, taking his team of Clydesdales home from their last job; from this point on, a tractor will be used instead. And a' the years I've plied my trade, an a' the fields we've ploughed and laid, I never thought I'd see the time when a Clydesdale's work wid ever end, But progress runs its driven course, and tractors hae replaced the horse. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGPfreeware 7.0.3 for non-commercial use http://www.pgp.com iQA/AwUBQJWAxzMYPge5L34aEQLf0gCfSlBz5XwLhg4UjENhFunAn+ gkMi8An0t4 8WyybDmU1bo6tbzQqz1UB3QI =QLk2 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- John F.
