How do you get such action shots!

Keep your digicam close and never be afraid to snap. The great thing about
digicams is that you can erase your failures at no cost. (Except I can't
bear to erase pics of my precious one.)

I do, but, sigh, the light is always bad and even though I put it on the
"sports" mode, I get a bunch of black blurs. It's not the camera, it's me.
It's a Canon A70. I just still have to figure out how to use it optimally.

She is so cute! I love that evenly divided coloring on her face.

It's not you - it's your cats! Black cats are extremely hard to
photograph. Stymies some of the best photographers *and* their fancy
equipment.

I've got a Kodak and the stupid thing defaults to auto flash, which screws
up the color. The camera does a fine job in low light. The first thing I do
every time I power it up is turn the flash off so my colors will come out
right. Alas, I haven't found a way to make the setting stick across power
cycles.

It got more defined as she got older, and inspired her name. I was thinking
of the Joker's sidekick, Harley Quinn, and as she purred one afternoon it
also brought to mind the way a Harley Davidson sounds rumbling at the light
next to me.

She loves to sit on my lap while I play games, and I've learned to hold
very still even in the middle of a desperate firefight to keep from waking
her up. When a match ends and I wait for the next map to load, I reach down
to pet her and she insists on licking the palms of my hands.

The trick to photographing black cats is to use available light, and
make sure there's enough of it. Flash makes black fur look like hell.

Not a domestic cat, but presented the same challenge:

Get him near a window, or other non-flash light source, and take a TON
of pictures. At least a few should come out good.

Those are the ones that turn out for me, but usually they aren't playing
wildly at the window

Ooooooo! Gorgeous! It's a giant Licky Boy!!

(I do tend to think of Licky as a "black cat" even though he's
really a tuxedo. But his face is mostly black and the white strip
down his belly is pretty narrow, so he's mostly black. When I see
a big black leopard like in these photos, it looks to me like
Licky writ large. )

I like the middle one the best - that picture captured the most
expressive facial expression, one I'd expect to see on a house cat.

I love the editing! It's just too perfect. I also love how the grey
tabby is the definite troublemaker; the black&white kitty just wants to
be left alone! } Further proof that tabbies are troublemakers! (as if
my Lynxie weren't proof enough)

Seeing this video makes me wish I had originally gotten two cats; it
must be a riot when they do "battle" like this...

Alas, Lynxie won't accept anyone new now; it's way too late...
