Default Questionz

Amen to this Kathy. New kitties have always been welcomed here, and that
much (AFAIK) has never changed in rpcc. And traditions can be carried on,
even if they change somewhat. The regular group that is here day after day
will be the ones to decide about new traditions and new events, but I'm glad
to hear that so many care about the Jellicle Ball.

I guess a little nostalgia comes over us at Jellicle Ball time. We begin to
think about the fun we had in the past and our loved ones at the RB. I wish
everyone here could read a few of the stories (and real life events) from
the past.

There is a long oral tradition that filters down from the past and keeps the
heritage of this group alive, so its roots are never allowed to whither
away. I gained my knowledge of the split and the original group in the same
way some of you are hearing it now, because I was not here during those
times. Some of the original posters were already gone (some had died,
others had lost contact) when I arrived, but I heard the names and the
stories of all of them. I wish there could be a grandmother kittie or
grandfather kittie who sits down with the youngsters every year and tells
the stories, much like so many cultures have passed down the tales from
their past. If it was ever composed, the job could be handed down when one
storyteller could no longer carry on and was replaced by another. Not just
the split, but some of the early tales too, like Spike and Shu, Finn's
Specialist Nip, the first hoomin Honorary Cat, Shadrach & Jezebel, Thaddy &
Bigman, the Rankincats, Major and Mahler, Shamrock & Thistle, Princess (the
dog who was an Honorary Cat), the Cadbury hunt... well, I'll stop here
because I can't begin to name them all and don't want to leave anyone out
either... so I'll not attempt it. Gosh, I love this group.

oh, wow, I'm also from the old group preceding rpcc and Unca Cory makes
some
great points. Two of his points though are based on a misunderstanding.
Let me reference those two:

1. An Rpcc'er wrote:

: I have been so impressed by the quality of writing that happens in our

At
this
: Jellical Ball, I even cut-and-pasted much of it, to read from time to
time.
:
: I would be very happy and contented to see the traditions of rpcc

: without any change at all,

Then Cory wrote:

: There isn't any way possible for RPCC to continue its traditions without
: any change at all. Kitties come and go now, for whatever reason, on an
: almost routine basis.
__________________________________________________ ____
I believe this refers to wanting to keep Meitze/Melissa in charge of the
"Calling of the names" that takes place at the Jellicle Ball and of
course,
"The Walk" and that's all. All other changes are inevitable, welcome and
interesting. I also want to keep Melissa in that role.

2. Cory wrote:
:I don't mean or want to speak for any kitty or hooman, but the new
: kitties who've joined RPCC in recent years since the split ARE welcome
: here, IMNSHO. We ARE glad to have you here, and we DO want the new
: kitties to feel welcome and join in or start activities that are fun,
: not only for the rest of the group, but for the individual kitties, I
: believe.
____________________________________________
Holy Bast, Unca Cory, where on earth did you get the idea that new kitties
aren't welcome? Good grief! Of course they are. Why else did we survive
those flame wars and the battle with the officials that tried to deny us
this group? We fought to make this group a reality for all kitties who
want
to meowchat. You gotta remember that war. It was hard and it was serious.
And now there is an rpccc and all meowchatters have it as their home. All
is
the operative word. That would be the Old Meowchatters, the New
Meowchatters
and the left-over Meowchatters.

I've been following the Wedwink and it's delightful. Did you know that the
very first Wedwink was between Dolores' Thaddeus and my Lily? Before that
everyone had winkwink bonds, but Lily's Maw, Frau Freya, was an old
fashioned cat and insisted on a wedwink, so we did it.

Anyway, I sure do hope that we are all welcome here - that was the purpose
in creating this group, after all.

RPCC is NOT the same group that it was back in the day when it was
RPC,
and we had to preface our headers with "MEOW", so that those that
wanted
to filter out our meowchat could do so. Some people will say that in
some ways, RPCC is a better group. Some will say that, in some ways,
it's not as fun for some people (having said this, there ARE valid
reasons that some RPC folks stopped posting, other than it just
wasn't
fun anymore [lost internet access at work... don't have the time
anymore... there are even some people who still cannot access RPCC
through their ISP or newsgroup provider, even though it's been around
for a long time now. Some news feeds just don't carry it.]). I
personally prefer to just think that RPCC is different these days...
not
in terms of "better" or "worse".

You also have to remember, too, that people change as they grow
older.
What was once upon a time fun just isn't anymore... not because it's
turned "bad", so to speak, but because the people have simply
outgrown
that kind of fun (which is what I think has happened to me, to some
degree, as I've gotten older). Another reason things have changed is
because kitties' likes and dislikes change over time, as well, not to
mention that there ARE a LOT of newer kitties in the newsgroup.
That,
right there, will "shift" the interests of the group, and that's not
a
bad thing at all, I feel.

Indeed, Unka Cory, I agrees wif dis.

Every kitty and hooman that *posts* here
should feel welcome and have fun being here, and if that isn't the
case
for you anymore, then it's time to bow out gracefully, rather than
ruining a fun time for everyone else.

Default Mietze! Questionz

Itz ben wonderful to heer frum all the antis and cats who doant come
arown much ennymore, specially on such a portant topic as tha Jellicle
Ball. Itz troo dat da Jellicle Ball is like a homecomeng - and dis
yeer, itz nise dat so many antis an cats are stickeng round afterwurd
so we can sort of haf a bizness meeteng and tawk bout da detayls. Itz
guud for longtime cats an new cats to come togethfur to tawk.

I know dat a lot of de longtime antis haf been emaileng eech uther and
are kwite upset dat Mietze mite resign. A lot of the newcomer antis
haf been emaleng eech uther, as well. De idea dat Mietze shud resign
came frum out of the bloo, to all off us. Dis was not sumthing we
wanted, nor was it sumthing we askd for. We did not ask enny cat tu
speek fur us: enny cat who has said dey wanted Mietze to resign, an
sayd deay speek for all uf us, issa ... issa ... well, not a furry nise
cat. Accordengly, if there is some nastee cat who has said dis, pleese
do not blame thuh rest off uss!

If an anti wants to haffa petition to ask Mietze to stay, dat wood be
eksellent - but I fink we all know what de outcome of any such
petition wood be. I fink if Mietze resined, it might effun cause an
irreparable rift in da whol process. We hate tu see any cats or antis
takeng sides whin it seems dat we want da same fings.

Da new antis try furry, furry, furry hard to adheer to the traditions
of the Jellicle Ball. We ask a LOT uff kwestions. We had kwite a
discusshion to see if it wood effun be appropyiate to hav tha wedwink
in conjunction wif da Jellicle Ball. I bout drove anti Melissa krazy
wif my menny kwestions bout protocol, because we new kitties revere da
Jellicle tradition an respect it. Plees do not fink dat we ignore da
importence of dis tradition.

Two more fings: I know sum antis fink it is sad dat only a liddle more
dan a dozen of uss post heer regularlee. Howeffer, dat duzzint meen we
aren't haffing fun or camaraderie. As won cat said, it is still a
wonderful, lively plase to go effury day, to be wif friends who
understand an smooth out da ruff spots in life. A groop dis size
manages dat furry well. Ther is a LOT of luff here - an a lot of
confurrsation.

And: If yu wer heer fur the Jellicle Ball, plees know that yu are
