Default Cat Paper - anyone else use this?

Dmitri sometimes misses his litter box by a fraction of an inch, and
shoots all over the floor. If I happen to be in there when he's going
and see that he's missing, I can physically push his rear into position
and all is fine, but you can imagine the messes.

So I had gone online to find out how to fix this and it's apparently a
bigger problem for cats that I'd known. (I've never had a cat that does
this)

Anyway, I found an article on about.com that raved about a product
called cat paper. So I went to the website (catpaper.com) and decided
to give it a try. I bought the smallest roll. (It also comes in precut
sheets, but since the boys use both boxes, I wanted to be able to cut
it to size.)

Well, this is fantastic stuff. The backing is plastic so that it soaks
up into the paper and all you do is pick up the paper and dispose.
Between cat paper and World's Best litter, litter cleanup has become so
easy. And the boys don't mind the cat paper at all. (Though Jack
sometimes likes to fold the corners of the paper...he's very odd about
litter boxes.)

I'm totally sold on this stuff. It's the perfect solution for any cat
that doesn't always keep it in the box.

Juls

p.s. I realize another solution is a higher sided box, but I was
worried about his ability to get in and out because of his arthritis.

Hmmm. I need to look at this. Pearl is a "corner peer" and sometimes she is
a bit over. this could be handy.

Suddenly, without warning, Juls exclaimed (08-Aug-05 5:12 PM):

FYI a higher sided box isn't always the answer. Tried that with Meep,
then went for a covered box, but she just aimed for the crack between
the box and the lid. So I eventually invented what I call a 'pee
shield' - a thick piece of bag plastic that runs from about 3/4 way back
on the left, along the back, then around to the right, secured by
electrical tape. Works a treat most of the time, though if she's really
determined, she'll pee out the front door. sigh.

The front page seems to promote the bigger sizes. They have a starter
pack for about ten bucks and a smaller roll for I think 13.95. They use
Priority Mail, which is 3.85 I believe. That small roll has lasted me
at least a month, and I just ordered my second roll to have on hand.

So unless you've got a lot of cats, I wouldn't order the big rolls at
first...make sure your cat likes it.

I also may use it on occasion for their place mat. They make such a
mess when eating and I use a big plastic mat, but would be a nice
alternative on days I'm too busy to wash it.

someone on this group recommended this recently, in lieu of my using
plastic tablecloths to protect my sofa when I wasn't using it. It
seemed pricey for a daily sofa urinator (and that person somehow
decided I wasn't willing to fix my cat's problem because I found the
tablecloths more economical and practical for my situation).

I guess for a small area around a box it wouldn't be too much of a
cost, but I couldn't see the amount needed to cover 2 couches and 1
chair every single day.

OTOH, we've been [inappropriate-] pee free for almost 2 weeks now, so
I'm not even wiping off tablecloths - woohoo!

Yes, I LOVE this stuff. I have it in about 6 corners of my house. 1 or 2
of my cats will pee in one of the corners about once a week. Pick it up and
throw it away. It is wonderful, and I've tried EVERYTHING (aluminum foil,
upside down plastic carpet runners, etc). One of my cats has CRF, and he's
gonna go where he's gonna go. This stuff has reduced the stress level of
EVERYONE in the house! I buy both the sheets (for small areas) and the
roll. I had my carpets cleaned a couple months ago, and this stuff hasn't
leaked onto them at all, and it's light enough to let the carpets "breath".
I wish I could buy stock in this company!!!

Otis quite often does his business (and we ain't talking pee here) over
the side. I suppose it's better that it's No 2's as it's less messy, I
just wait til he's finished burying thin air, and then wrap the
newspaper that his box sits on up and chuck away, bit stinky and not
very pleasant but he doesn't do it all the time and it seems to be the
best solution (but why does always seem to want a dump while I'm eating
at the table near his box - typical!)
