vomiting non eating cat
Our 4 year old house cat has been vomiting and refusing food for almost
a week. After a couple of vet visits ruling out obstruction in her digestive system and blood work ok our cat keeps refusing food and most of the forced food keeps coming up till there is nothing but a clear jelly-like substance that she throws up, no diharrea, no high temperature and no abdominal pain to the touch (by vet). One weird thing....just before vomiting she would start crying loudly for a few seconds then convoltions like symptoms, then vomit. I can see the end of the road very near for this cat but I would try just about anything to keep her alive, all I can do for now is keep force feeding her tiny bits of food mixed with water a few times a day. Please, any help or advice appreciated. Thanks...Gil |

See another vet. Something is very wrong that your vet is missing.

How did your vet rule out any obstruction. Did your vet do any scans or x- rays? Alison |

I agree--see another vet. However, make sure you get copies of all your
records to bring to the new place (ie bloodwork, x-rays, etc.) |

I am willing to bet that you will go 2-3 days with little to no
food to speak of that's all...cat is emulating what they've seen cat is nervous it be alright Well, not sure if it was nerves, after almost a week of not eating and vomiting the cat stopped vomiting we force fed her a couple of times and as of yesterday, she started eating small amounts of food on her own. Could it had been some kind of bug maybe that felines get? I want to thank all for the replies and advice. Gil |

vomiting non eating cat
We had a scare about a month ago with our two cats. First Goofy wasn't
eating much or going to the bathroom and we would find spots where he got sick every day. He was eating a little, then throwing it up. We took him to the vet after a couple of days and they did an x-ray and ruled out an obstruction. They thought he was just "stopped up" and gave him 1/2 bottle of laxatone. He threw that up after a few hours too, but another day and a half later he just started eating and going to the litter box just fine. Our best guess is that he just had a stomach bug of some sort. About 4 days into our scare with Goofy, our other cat Sassy stopped eating. She never gets hairballs or anything and has a great appetite so this was really unusual, especially with Goofy being sick too. We took her to the vet and they couldn't find anything obstructed with her either. Two days later she eventually threw up a pine needle that was about 2 1/2" long and in one piece! She's back to her normal self, thankfully. In both cases they were drinking plenty of fluids, you need to be really attentive to if they are drinking or not. They can get dehydrated really quickly. I would definately get a 2nd opinion. Especially since this has been going on over a week. Do you see a regular vet, or one that specializes in felines? You may want to see if there is a specialist in your area, it's my experience that they have more extensive training in conditions that are unique to felines. Good luck, keep us updated! Tracey |

Well, not sure if it was nerves, after almost a week of not eating and
vomiting the cat stopped vomiting we force fed her a couple of times and as of yesterday, she started eating small amounts of food on her own. I trust your vet told you that it is very dangerous for a cat to quit eating altogether even for a couple of days? That is how they can get hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease). Overweight cats are the most at risk but it can happen to any cat. Please talk to your vet about this. Here's a few links: http://www.vetinfo.com/cencyclopedia/cehepatlip.html http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body...lipidosis.html http://www.healthypet.com/library_view.aspx?ID=42&sid=2 LMR -- Message posted via CatKB.com http://www.catkb.com/Uwe/Forums.aspx...ealth/200602/1 |

Our 6 year old female had the same problem 6 weeks ago. The vet did
blood-work and everything looked fine. She had not eaten for about 4 days, but continued to drink. Would vomit everyday (just foam mostly...stomach acid I guess). BTW-the crying is usual for cats before they vomit, however it sounds awful...moaning! The vet gave us laxatone thinking that she was constipated (she had not had a bowel movement in about 4-5 days either) and some cat food that is like pudding to force feed her with a syringe. The laxatone cleared her out but it wasn't until a couple days later that she started to eat again without us force feeding her like a baby. I'm glad everything is ok now with your cat. It's amazing how awful they can seem and then get better! Paige |
