The sugar thing may be true or not but,...

Human note, (with Diana's permission): OK, we have some evidence that cats go for some sweet stuff, but most of it has butter or cream or some such stuff as well. The thing is that the story is now being carried by the CBC at http://www.cbc.ca/story/science/national/2005/07/25/cat-sweet050725.html and the CBC is a fairly reputable network. They will have checked this story. Now whether the reseachers know what they're talking about, that's another think. Diana and Ryan both seem interested to sniff the sugar bowl from time to time, but neither has tried to lick it. the do go after ice-cream and the last bit of milk when I have cereal, but those could be other things attracting them, like milk and cream, and strangely enough they like the smell of my "Ancient Grains" cereal too, but I've never seen either of them eat a flake. What Diana and Ryan both lack is any temptation at all for anything that can be called a commercial cat treat. They are mother and son, so I bet there's something similar genetically going on there. This brought back a memory from about 15 years ago. My next door neighbor was getting ready for a dinner party and I had some of her stuff in my oven. I went over to see what time she wanted it. Her cat, Popo. was up on her table licking sugar from the sugar bowl. MLB |

The article about "sweets" is interesting. Punkins does not like any cat
treats, whether wet or dry while Puddi will eat anything. Punkins does like however a very small cube of white angel food cake and a wee bit of cookie and filling from the non-chocolate type sandwich cookie. She also likes one lick of orange sherbet. Puddi could care less for any of those. Fran -- Remove "spam" from addy to reply |
