Abelard News
He's been sticking to me like glue for the last couple of weeks as I've been
gradually getting ready to leave on my trip south. Every night he's been under the covers right up next to my stomach where he stays until I get up in the morning, and the rest of the time he's always within a few feet of me. Which led me to seriously consider taking him on the trip. I almost always take him with me when I stay away overnight (like when I met Sherry in Tulsa last summer), and he loves it, no matter how much time he has to spend in the van, and never even asks to be let out to run around. I think he's used to it because I took him on several short trips with me when he was very young, plus he loves being the center of attention and the "only" cat, if only for the duration of the trip. So, naturally, I've been thinking of taking him on this one (oh, if only I could afford that cat stroller someone mentioned here recently) because I believed he would miss me a lot - he seems to hardly know the other five cats exist. And I thought my housesitters might feel a little less overwhelmed if there was one less cat in the house. Even tho travelling for that long with a cat might not be such a good thing for either of us. Then this morning he surprised me by getting a case of the zoomies. First time I've seen this since before he was snipped. For close to an hour he was tearing back and forth the whole length of the house, chasing Lily and Billy, playing hide-n-seek, leaping at toys and boxing with the kittens, during which time I stood watching with my jaw on the floor. So now I'm thinking he might be better off staying home and strengthening his bonds with the other cats. I've even seen him co-grooming and napping with Eli recently. But I'll miss the little guy sooooo bad.... Nobody who hasn't spent time with Abelard could fully appreciate what a special kitty he is. I treasure every moment with him, knowing his life could end at any time, regardless how much I hope and pray and dote over him and want him to live into his thirties. |
