Squash Casserole (WAS Man Beats 7 Pound Cat to Death with Stick in Worcester, MA)
"Ron" wrote in message
... Just happens to be the father of a Worcester police officer. Lovely story. Thanks for disrupting the group with it. We have ways of labelling distressing stories so people can avoid reading them. Of course, the topic on this one says it all. A good thing for those in the U.S. (not so sure about the folks across the pond) Summer squash (not the game!) season is in full swing and it's very inexpensive! This squash casserole is delicious: Squash Casserole 2 c. thinly sliced yellow (crookneck) squash 1 c. grated Parmesan cheese 1 c. cornbread stuffing crumbs 1 c. milk 1 small minced onion 1 Tbs. butter 2 eggs, lightly beaten 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. pepper Combine all ingredients. Place in a 1-1/2 quart casserole dish. Bake at 350F for 1 hour until set. You may spoon this into individual ramekins if desired. I've found lightly steaming the squash for a couple of minutes after slicing it results in a better texture when the casserole is baked. Note: If using leftover cornbread rather than dry crumbs, reduce the liquid slightly. Jill |

Being really nice, which I don't bother to always....because I like you and think you are interesting.....Jill has been unloading all the stuff she brought back from Memphis. If you call being sick of alt.cats refugees (Italian-speaking, yet, check its profile) dumping pet horror stories on this ng which distresses others than me. We got some Usenet cops here but I'm not one of them. Practice what ya preach AFA post content....awhile ago weren/t you and a reg here going at it? Not sure why Jill needs your defence here but suffice to say I will post what I want to post. As for the posts about crime against animals, if even reading (just) the subject line is too much for anyone they really should evaluate their decision to participate in usenet. Others may feel those post are informative. And yes the posts are often not well tagged which is a valid objection. |

I'm soooo terribly sorry real life intruded so that I couldn't monitor every single post on rpca and reply to them every day! Maybe you don't have a life... I happen to have one. Get over it. Jill |

I don't consider a post with a subject line that describes the full horror to be "well-tagged". I do think it's common courtesy to warn sensitive readers about contents by making note of it in the subject line, but it only works if one is at least somewhat discreet about it. ("Warning: animal cruelty" works for me, and would qualify as good tagging IMO.) Otherwise, what's the point of a warning? If it's totally explicit, it kinda defeats the purpose. No, I can't force anyone to do anything. I'm not trying to. Just letting folks know what I prefer and why I prefer it. I don't think my preferences are unreasonable, but there will no doubt be some people who disagree. -- Joyce ^..^ To email me, remove the XXX from my user name. |

I've been participating in Usenet groups since 1995 or 96, I'm certainly not some Google Grouper who thinks this is a "forum". I've no idea what you're getting all in a huff about because I posted a recipe in response to what I consider a Troll. Jill |

He also called Ms. Tuttle, who told him it was unlikely that her cat had rabies and that it was doubtful he?d contract it from a simple scratch, anyway. Suppose the cat had been a pit bull. Would the response to the killing be the same? My cat's pretty tiny, but she scares the hell out of me when she's ****ed. Even a small animal can be dangerous. Just as a pretty girl shouldn't get special dispensation for a traffic ticket, a cute animal shouldn't get special treatment when threatening strangers. I think you misssed the point. *The killing was a second visit and there was no evidence the man was attacked a second time. *Certainly the police did not seem to even investigate any story other than the one from the former cop - cop's father - current college public safety office. I sent this to the Worcester paper: The Song of the Cat-killing hero I will not take this lying down. I bleed, The beast attacked me. And she must die. I will prevail, no cat can stand against me No child can stop me. Woman, out of my way. If men oppose me, I’ll see they are arrested. Or run if they are close. Just one more beer And then I march to glory. Stick upraised. -- Will in New Haven |

This is definitely for supper tomorrow after a trip to the farmers market. *note, if you are eating cornbread, dinner is a mid day meal and the evening meal is supper. Even if you were born a Yankee.
