Default I'm really worried about Spooky

Spooky has been in declining health for some years. He's about 21 years
old, and a bag of bones. He's been losing weight steadily for the last
few years and there just isn't much left. He's been eating less and less
of the canned food I use to bribe him to get more food in him - he ate
only a couple of mouthfulls Sunday; he just licked it Monday, he ate none
Tuesday, and today he won't even come out of his hiding place in the
bedroom closet.

He hasn't been walking very well for months, but last night he went out -
stayed out much longer than usual and went farther from the house. When I
let him back in, he could barely walk at all. He just made his way to his
hiding place and hasn't been seen since, except when I went to check on
him, and then the only response was a weak tail wiggle.

I am concerned enough that I dug his grave this evening - better to do it
while the sun was still up than in the dark (I will be a couple of hours
late getting home tomorrow). I dug it next to Maryweather's - the ground
was much softer, so I was able to do a better job.

Spooky's been with me for sixteen years. I've though he was done for
before, but this time I really don't expect him to last more than a day or
so at the most. It's already past his time.

I'm so sorry, Ted. We'll be purring continuously here for the old fella and
his friends, and of course for his slave.

I know how hard this time can be. It does sound as if he has had a
good life, and was able to get all the good out of it for a very long
time.

Sadly, a very long time for them just isn't enough time for us. I
guess its human to want 'more', even though they show us every day how
to be happy with just what is.

I think I'm gonna go find a cat and pet it. Then we'll send purrs.

Ted, I can't ask for an outcome that would prolong Spooky's agony, even if
it would make you happy. I'm thinking for the best thoughts and wishes and
asking the owners to purr for the same. Spooky is one of my favorite feline
members of this group. Please love on him for us all.

I'm so sorry to hear about Spooky, Ted. It sounds like what we went through
with our beloved 19 year old Mutt, last Dec. He just went peacefully to The
Bridge on his own. You're doing the best you can for him, being there for
him, trying to get him to eat 'something'..(try some babyfood) and
preparing his final resting place, with love, and a broken heart.
You had some great times with your 'old man'...right?
Purrs, prayers, love, and comfort.

I'm sorry to read this, Ted, but he has had a long and happy life with
you, I'm sure. Purrs for his passing and the empty space he will leave
behind.

It is so sad when they decline slowly like this

He's had a more time than most cats do, not that that makes this any
easier.

But it does sound like his time is very, very close.

Purrs for an easy journey to the Bridge for Shadow, and for it to be as
easy on you as possible.
