Since my old Siamese and Max had both developed this later in life I've
assumed that, like people, it's part of the aging package. Max would either look around as though surprised or else rapidly clean himself - there. I can state with absolute certainty that it's not always related to aging, nor is it always related to dietary change. Samuel R kitten is a little under 4 months old, has been eating the same diet for the last 2 1/2 months, and is in excellent health. But every once in a while (on average once a week or so) when he curls up on my chest at bed time he'll let rip with a kitten fart that is so disgusting it darn near drives me from the bed. Doesn't usually seem to bother him (he usually acts as if nothing happens), but every once in a while the smell is so ripe that even he gets offended. Dan |

When Pine Cone first rescued us from camping boredom, we fed him Iams. It turns out that there is something in Iams that doesn't like Pine Cone. He filled up the tent with his little (not) kitten gas. After we got home and found that his gas problem didn't improve with time, we switched over to Science Diet for them all. Only occasional gas from the Conecat now, usually when he's been slumming and stealing hoomin food from the table. Pam S. |

Has anyone else had any experience with their cats farting? It is the first time I have noticed this with Gizmo I've never noticed Laku to fart, neither has hubby, I just asked him. So apparently the only "natural gases" in this household are of human origin... Laku's three years and four months old now and eats only canned food. He doesn't seem to understand that dry kibble could be food. We've tried to offer him a variety of dry food, but all he does is play "hockey" with it... -- * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Christine in Vantaa, Finland (Europe) Email: christal63(at)yahoo(dot)com Photos: http://photos.yahoo.com/christal63 |

What was really funny, to me, was the time Tanada let one loose when we had a bunch of people over. She looked over at me like I'd done the dirty deed, and everyone else followed suit. No one believed me when I declared that the cat did it. Pam S. Cats have vey good hearing! |

[snip] I might also mention--more useless information from the same source--humans sweat on the average 2 quarts from their feet per day. No way Jose. Go to your kitchen, get a measuring cup, and pour out 2 quarts of water. Uh-uh. http://www.arogyadeep.com/med_faqs/K...OUR%20BODY.htm says 8 *ounces* per day, which sounds reasonable. |

You'd be petting her, she might be on your lap or next to you, she'd start to purr and a minute later-Whew! She stopped doing this after she got to be 3 years old or so. |

I've experienced kitty farts. Dogs do it too. I had a friend who owned a black lab that could create extremely foul, room clearing, odors. I suppose it is related to the amount of starch in the diet, so dry food kitties would be more prone to this than wet food kitties. That's an interesting point about dry vs wet food. I've never noticed Sammy pass gas, and she mainly eats wet food with just a little dry for grazing. Her mom, Little Bit is the opposite, mainly dry with a taste of wet - and she's more gassy. with freddy he eats mainly, 90% dry food and until the last week has never popped one near me that i am aware of. just the last week he has popped once, under the bed covers, typical male!! and litter box deposits have been foul. no change in diet but change of environment.
