Default Cat walk

Saw this on the news show this morning.
It reminds me of the time when I first tried to take Rusty out for walk.
Finally I gave up and Rusty never took a walk in the OUT.

That's funny! Thanks.

I actually bought a cat harness and a lead for Persia. (She did wear a
breakaway collar, which she didn't mind at all.) I let her wear the
harness for a few days to get used to it. Then I attached the leash and
let her drag it around. I was told doing that would get her used to it
so she wouldn't mind walking on a leash.

Uh uh, no way. She refused. She went all flat cat on me. Since I
didn't want to literally drag her outside, I bought an outdoor enclosure
instead. She had many happy times running into the outdoor Kitty Walk,
but she would never actually go for a walk on a leash.

I did the same thing. Good thing the harness was on loan to me
from another cat slave and I didn't waste any money.
An outdoor enclosure is a good idea. But I live in a highrise, and don't
even have a balcony. I suppose we could sat outside by the front entrance
to the building.
My initial idea was to walk Rusty to the vet clinic which is within walking
distance. I don't have a car and pets are not allowed on buses.
I ended up walking with Rusty in his carrier.
Rusty was pretty lightweight. But with a heavy plastic
carrier the weight added up. Even tried putting the carrier on a shopping or a
luggage cart. But Rusty hated the bumpy walk, (he also hated the elevator rides) and either threw up or did his business in the carrier.
Finally I bought a lightweight cloth carrier so it is easier for me to carry.
This way he didn't feel any bumps along the way.
In the winter I had to take a cab.
With Rusty's poor health since he was 2, I lost count of the trips we took to the vet, not to mention the late night mad dashes to the emergency vet located much further away from home.
But he lived to a ripe old age of 16.

Ah, those were the days of being a Meowmie.

It's lovely to hear from you again, Winnie. Quite a coincidence too as I
just mentioned you & Rusty in my last post ten minutes ago before I saw your
post.
How are you? are you keeping well?

I am doing fine, thank Tweed.
Saw your post wrt my brushing Rusty's teeth.
It didn't prevent him from getting Feline Resorptive Lesions
resulting in the extraction of 2 teeth.
But I tried. Before that his teeth were quite good for his age.

I did post several times recently on interesting cat news and videos.
Even though I am catless, I am still very much interested in cats, and
dogs too. I read this forum regularly.

Take care. Give Boyfie a scratch for me.

I had one cat that would walk on a leash. He was my first cat, the one
I got when I left for graduate school (several states away from my home)
and wanted a companion. He was feral, about 8 months old. If I had
known better, I would have known that I should not adopt a feral as my
first cat. I'm really glad I did *not* know that because he lived with
me for almost 20 years. It took 2 years for us to become truly bonded,
but after that he was an absolutely wonderful friend. We lived in town
(downtown Lincoln, Nebraska) on the corner of two busy streets, so it
would have been too dangerous to let him outside. However, he had lived
outside for the first 8 years of his life and clearly wanted to go out
again. So, once he was tame enough for me to try it, I began to walk
him on a leash. More accurately, he walked me--I would let him wander
wherever he wanted and I would follow behind holding the end of the
leash. I actually made a number of friends that way. Everyone was
amazed to see a cat walking on a leash.

MaryL
