Cat's Behaviour

Hi all. I am just a bit curious about something my
cat does and have seen my previous cats do. When
startled they would turn sideways, hunch their backs
and hop backwards. I'm wondering if it has something
to do with instinctive defense.

It's hilarious when little kittens do it. It is one of my favorite things.

It's hilarious when little kittens do it. It is one of my favorite things.

My cat's 8 years old and still does this on occassion. It seems to be
the same as when a dog drops onto it's elbows, "I wanna Play!", and is
usually followed by much running and jumping around.

Yup. Its a defensive tactic. We had a cat at the shelter who did that all
the time; we nicknamed him "Sideways"!
