Default Boy cats vs girl cats

I've asked this question before a few years ago, but what do you think are
the differences between boycats and girlcats?

I've only had one boy - Buster. He's probably the funniest cat I've ever
had. Oh, he thinks he's completely serious about the business of being a
cat, and he always has a busy itinerary. But he's also more self-absorbed
and impulsive than any other cat I've had, which makes him seem a bit
goofy. Sticking his head into empty cereal boxes, sliding backwards off my
lap, and taking rides in the laundry basket.

The girls I've had were more self-conscious. Betty was polite and clingy.
Dot is demanding and clingy. And Spicey keeps everyone expertly at arm's
length.

I've only ever had Persia, a girl cat. But I used to cat-sit for my
neighbor, Lynn.

Fedders (RB) was a take-charge kinda guy-cat. He was always there
head-butting me when I came in, yelling for his food. Then demanding to
go outside. And he was always late coming home for dinner. I'd worry
when he wasn't in after dark.

Her other cat, Schwartzie, is just a laid back kinda guy. He'd tolerate
scritches and even let me brush him. But he's not a food hog. The only
way I could tell if he'd eaten was if I'd let Fedders out. I'd go back
a couple of hours later and see crunchies missing from his bowl. He
mostly hung out in the living room or on her bed.

I don't cat sit anymore. Schwartzie is diabetic and she doesn't want to
ask anyone to be responsible for giving him insulin. That's good,
because I wouldn't take on that responsibility with someone elses' cat.

They sound like very good boys. It's too bad that you can't catsit for them
anymore. I always enjoyed hearing about them!

I've mostly had boys, Nico (rb), Bushkey(rb), LuckyBoy(rb), Espy(rb),
Nipsy, and Scooter. Just two girls, Jackie and Marlo. Jackie was a
tiny old bitch when I got her but she dominated the brood for the nine
months or so that she lived. Tough one. Marlo is much more laid back,
and used to be very quiet until Espy crossed the bridge. Now she is
more vocal but still pretty quiet.

Scooter, Nico, and Espy are/were pretty curious and provocative cats.
Nipsy, Bushkey, and LuckyBoy not so much.

From my small sample size, there doesn't seem to be too much
difference in their behavior. Somehow I think the girls are more
observent and the boys more actionable, but it's hard to say.

I'm not an expert as I have only had 3 cats during my lifetime.
The first one, Pooey Pruie, I've told you about before - he was an old feral
tomcat that I found starving under our garden hedge when I was 11. I
persuaded my mother to let me keep him although she was not all keen about
it. We fed him up into good condition but OMG how he smelt, we took him to
the vet to see if we could get him neutered but he said no, he was too old
to take an anaethestic. anyway I kept him, stinky or not and he used to
wait for me on the doorstep when I came home from school - then I would pick
him up and carry him into the house. If I was not there to carry him in he
would not go inside.
I asked my mother if she would keep him in overnight and she was willing.
He pooed in my shoes. Next time he let me down too by taking the grill off
the bottom of the fridge and crawling into a space between the walls to poo
in there so that was the last time my mother agreed to an overnight stay.
He loved me, that cat did..

I've only had one female cat, Kitty Farmcat. I was very fond of her but I
don't think she cared a jot about me and would vent her considerable temper
on me if it suited her mood.

whereas my present cat, Boyfriend, a boycat (obviously) has no mood unless
it is sunny and even when he has to be caught for Important Injections he
would not scratch me even when we fight to get him into his carrier. He's
well aware when Claire comes to help me stuff him in it and then he is under
the bed.

My girlcat had a hard time so maybe she's not typical but she did have a big
temper.

My choice would be a boycat.

I've had both mal3es and females - the only behavioral differences I
ever noticed had more to do with whether or not they'd been spayed or
neutered. Other than that, cats are cats, IMO.

Pretty good sample...

Thomas - DSH tabby male, not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but liked
people
Boozy - DSH black female (Thomas's mother) aloof, regarded people as a
necessary evil
Eliza - Long-haired tabby female, very smart, either loved you or you
avoid you (she loved me)
Muddy - DSH black male - see Thomas
Mojo - DSH black male - very affectionate, liked people, howled like a
Siamese
Emily - DSH grey female - loved me, hated everybody else, ruled Muddy
and Mojo with a rod of iron
Custer - DSH ginger tabby - loves everybody
Smiley - DSH grey tabby - loves everybody (hates most other cats though)
Libby- DSH grey female, very friendly demands cuddles when she wants them
Rose - DSH Tortie female - loves me, shy around humans, kills anything
else that walks or crawls ;-)

I don't think you can draw too many conclusions about cat personality
based on sex

I can picture Pooey all scraggly, limp, and frowning, being carried bodily
by you.

I've had girls as enormously diverse as Betty and Spicey, but I feel like
they share a certain girlcat soul. Dot too.

My impression of Buster though, is just different somehow. I often find him
to be so funny for some reason, sort of like how Marina feels about
Caliban, or Theresa about Dante.

There have been plenty of amusing girls though as well, such as Jennifer's
Peaches, or Jill's Persia.

Sometimes I think we project our humor on them. They *think* they're doing
Very Serious Work.

I think ladies tend to settle down to spending most of their time
indoors at an earlier age than guys do. The oldest male we've had
was Ishmael and he kept going outside to do what a man's gotta do
until a few weeks before he died.

For ours, it seems like the blokes tended to be one-human cats more
than the girls.

I've always had a soft spot for girlkitties. Not that all girls are the
same, but there's a certain girly kind of sweetness that I don't see in
many boy cats, not to say that they're not affectionate. They do seem to
have a different style.

My impression of Buster though, is just different somehow. I often find him

Yes! The same is true in my house. Roxy is the sweetheart, the one who
rubs noses with me and purrs in my ear. Licky is the comedian - although
I doubt he'd see it that way. He's just quirky. In the evening, he stalks
around the house yowling, eventually diving under the throw rug and
emerging out the other side - just his head (and sometimes not his whole
head). If I say his name, he looks at me with huge wackadoodle eyes that
gleam in the light.
