Some people, when I've told them how many cats we have, have looked at me
in amazement, or like I'm nuts, or just let their jaws hit the floor...
But we only have 11 (was 12, but Poor ol' Smokey ended up with oral cancer
at the ripe age of 16), in this picture (from cuteoverload) I count 16
(maybe 17... double check the top right bin, my eyes want to tell me that
there's TWO cats in that one).

I think too many would be when you cannot take the vets bills, not how many
you can afford to feed. I could easily afford to feed several more, and
have plenty of room but I know that vet bills for the two I have are enough
for my salary and I would not like to get into a situation when I have more
cats than money to keep them well.
That defines it for me, too many is when you cannot afford the vets bill if
they all got sick at once.

Too many is when there aren't enough laps.

Ok, you stick to that definition and I'll stick to mine ;-)

I'm screwed either way. We have too many for us to be able to afford large
TED bills for them all at the same time and we have half the laps needed for
them to snuggle in comfort. That being said, we'd find the money somewhere
if they did all get ill, and not all of them are lap cats.

I did not set out to have any cats at all. They came without permission.
If another came, starving and lost, like Boyfriend did, I suppose I would
take it in, if KFC and Boyfie would accept it, but I would make all efforts
to rehome it. I do not want a third cat.
Kitty FC is bleeding out my disposable income at TEDs all the time so
another cat would be out of the question. I don't begrudge it, but I could
not think of taking on another at this time.

If not enough lap room is the mark, two of mine have to go. O T is like a
small dog and takes up all that space.

You also have the occasional case of someone, possibly with mental health
problems, who is keeping far more cats than he or she can take care of.
A case was in the news recently about an elderly woman with 50 cats in
her home; most were sick, and three were found to be dead. Her house
reportedly had several inches of accumulated cat feces on the floor. The
neighbors had been complaining to the authorities for several years about
the stench. The woman is now in a psychiatric hospital for evaluation,
and, once the authorities succeed in capturing the last few cats, the
house is expected to be sealed and classed as unfit to live in.

fortunately, not all cats need a lap.

I've got one little *******, who is only interested in a meal ticket,
only coming in the house long enough to eat, say hello, and say goodbye.
I've been trying to get mr. mongo to stay inside at nights and it is a
losing battle. He thinks howling for 7 hours straight is good exercise.

There's no such thing as too many cats. Rather, its more of a case of not
enough room, not enough time, and not enough resources. But there is never
such a thing as too many cats.

That's what we counted

That's hilarious! Pigeonholed kitties! Actually, it reminds me of
mailboxes in a school department office - with a very unusual mass-
mailing today.

Kitty Meowl?

The 4 on top look annoyed that they didn't get to have a cozy bin.

They do, don't they? Love the piccy
Scritches to all of them from us.
Thanks
