the tumor and
the tumor *alone* with yea whater dose of radiation patient's
specialist docs have
ordered. This is not like chemotherapy and does not nauseate
patients. It is, though,
radiation that is calculated to *kill* cancerous cells. It is so
powerful that the tech
ruinniing it is in lanothr adjoininng room watching patient through
a radiation-proof lead glass window.

I wonder how that is different from other radiation treatment that is
used on cancer patients. Or is it just a newer and more precise way
of administering radiation therapy?

Joyce

No, not new...just "different". Example of "other" radiation treatment
is
the radioactive nuclide "pill" given to thyroid cancer patients that
"kills"
only that organ. Believe me, the radiology docs know exactly how much
nuke is in every treatment, because *they* dole it out.
Nuclear med techs (more like my class tech but they stay in their own
dept.) are the ones who supervise the "thyroid pill" I mean.
That massive machine I showed you the link pic of is, if you will, the
"big
gun" When I started in radiology, the Nuclide (bigtime more
radioactive
than what's in a "thyroid pill") used in the accelerators was Cobalt.
That's
obsolete now; I dunno what the nuclide these days is.Not every
hospital
facility even has a "radiation therapy" dept. Those machines are
dangerous,
require monitoring, and are very expensive to operate and maintain.

When my mother was diagnosed with uterine cancer, one of the possible
post-op treatments after the hysterectomy was to inject some tiny iddy biddy
radiactive grains at the remaining edge closest to the cancer site, jsut as
a precaution. However, that was if the cancer had gotten past a certain
stage (think it was stage 2 and above, can't remember now) and it hadn't, so
the only care she has now is very regular examinations - every 3 months for
2 years after the surgery.

I can't remember the name of this treatment now, but its fairly new. It
seems counter-intuitive to intentionally leave radioactive material inside
the body, but apprantly this method is more successful than any other for
this particular cancer.

Hi Everyone,

I'm having problems paying for my NIN news services this year via
their Click&Buy service. I have no idea whether I've paid them their
overdue fee, or the subscription or anything thats going on with
them. I don't trust their e-mails and the only way I'll know for
sure is when my credit card statement comes in at the end of the
month. As a consequence, I may lose my NIN subscription for a little
while
until I figure out whether I've paid them or not, and if not, how to
pay them without involving Click&Buy or other services that my bank
think are 'untrustworthy'.

I think I have AIOE as a back up, and if it really gets bad, there's
GoogleGroups (shudder), but if I have lost the subscription to NIN, I
may not be posting to Usenet much until I figure it out.

Purrs to all in the mean time,

Yowie

Click and Buy is exactly why I stopped using NIN. I just didn't trust
them with my credit card info. Good luck.

I have had no issues on the Click&Buy end - its just my bank who is getting
all stupid about an overseas transaction. How about a bit of customer
service and *ring me* to see if the transaction is legit, before blocking it
and freezing my card. Since you blocked it sometime thursday, I've copped 3
'bad transaction' fees from other places that usually direct debit my card,
and which I'm sure you'll expect me to pay. Those fees are going to be more
than the lousy AUS$14 or so that Click&Buy wanted to debit, and you do this
to 'protect my finances'. But you'll just wait till I can contact you
(business hours, Monday to Friday only) before fixing things, meanwhile,
these direct debits come out at *any* time, leading to more 'bad transaction
'fees, and probably an 'overdue' fee too. All to 'protect my interests'?
yeah, right.

Gosh I hate banks.
