Purrs for the Pets in the Storm
From what I've been reading, some of the temporary evacuation shelters have
allowed people to bring their pets with them. (Education after Katrina, perhaps) Others had to leave their pets behind as they evacuated in the face of Hurricane Sandy. There are many shelters and agencies working together, gearing up to rescue and reunite families and pets. Please send some purrs for all of the pets to be safe and reunited with their hoomins. Jill Sending purrs and prayers . There was town along the Connecticut shore that would not allow pets in their shelter and they were telling people to put the pets on the second floor of their home before they left. A short time later the story changed and pets were allowed. Ann |

Too many people died in New Orleans because they wouldn't leave their pets behind. So now, agencies that deal with arranging shelters for people in the path of dangerous conditions are required to make arrangements for people's pets. I don't know that they have to allow people to bring their pets to the same shelters they're staying in, though. (Can you imagine cats spending days in a cat carrier? Nobody would sleep!) They just have to provide some way for the animals to stay safe. Others had to leave their pets behind as they evacuated in the face of Hurricane Sandy. I get regular emails from Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. They're involved in the rescue efforts. This is just the kind of thing they do, and apparently they do it pretty well. -- Joyce We can have democracy in this country, or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both. -- Louis D.
