Default Holiday Cards!

This is cool! I'm getting cards from all over and I love it!

However, I think I'll pass next year since the postage alone cost me $30
USD. It's fun, but I'm not getting writers cramp again next season, okay?
Unless more of you wish to pluck your cats and send fur with your cards

Ahhh... you just need to plan ahead. I got my cards after x-mas last
year, when they were very inexpensive. Then I buy extra-postage
throughout the year (I rarely mail anything nowadays, most bills get
paid online). So, the only expense I have right now is the overseas
mail, which shouldn't be that bad.

Yes, it can be very costly. I have been mulling over the idea of electronic
e-cards if people share e-mail addresses. One potential problem is that
some ISPs consider e-cards to be spam and may filter them out.

I wasn't complaining about not having postage; I can get the mailman to
leave stamps. I had 12 cards to buy extra postage for (outside the States)
so I stood in line an the post office to get overseas shipping and air mail
stickers.

My problem was, I normally send maybe 10 cards to friends and family; this
year outside of that was over 50! My hand got tired of signing my name on
some of them!

Hey Jill,

This is what I do.... buy your cards right after Christmas. Walgreens and Osco
already have inexpensive cards and after the holidays they are lots off. I
bought my pack of cards last year for .99 cents each! Now for the postage. Put
a jar or container aside and put the change you find in your purse or car or
couch grin into the jar. It will add up very fast over the year. My change jar
this December was at $81 (and that's with me "stealing" from it off and on). Got
my postage, got money left over to buy sale cards and lots left over for a
donation to a cat shelter or for whatever I want!

I just think of the postage costs as "a gift to myself".

The majority of the posters in RPCA are in the USA, so just remember when
you are going to the post office to buy stamps, most of your stamps are for
domestic mail, whereas those of us who don't live there are sending the
majority of our cards as international postage. Think of Britta - *every*
card she send to RPCA/catslave people is international.

Still, I treasure those cards, I've kept every year so far in a special box.
Every time I'm feeling down in the dumps and starting to think "nobody gives
two hoots about me" all have to do is look in that box, and I can see your
smiling happy faces waving at me from all over the globe.

Yes, the cost is high, but you guys are infinitely worth it. The sudden and
tragic passing of Diane reminds me once again how precious all of you guys
are to me. In that respect, the postage cost, which I admit feels painful at
the time, is really nothing compared to the pricelessness of the gifts this
group has given me.

Hmmm, I hadn't thought of it that way, but I guess they are all
international. Mind you, things are a bit cheaper here. I just mailed them
all off this morning and it cost me 1350 baht, that's $33.75 US and $45 CDN.
Not too bad for how much fun it always is to get all the cards :-) I still
have each and every card too from the previous 2 years.

I tend to avoid getting the mail for days at a time (too lazy to drive to
the mailbox)... so today my mail offered up tons o' Christmas cards from all
around the US plus Finland!!!

My DH wouldn't open the cards in the car, as he was afraid we'd "lose any
cat fur enclosed"! He is very amused by my "cat people".

Marina - DH was pleased as pudding to get your card with the finnish words
on it.. he said "This is the first thing I've gotten from Finland since I
was 9!". To which I reminded him it was addressed to ME! LOL. He said he
wished you'd written it in Finnish! We also enjoyed "Da Moose" . We will
have to show your card to my MIL, as she'll get a kick out of it as well!

Alas, my cards sit un addressed at work, as I'm so lazy!! Hopefully I'll get
them out sometime, though I am seriously doubting it will be by Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all!!!!

Stacey

P.S. TJ, loved the "Stacey Sharpe, et al" on yours!!! I told DH "That's the
lady with the tarantulas and killer bees.", so he opened yours VERY
CAREFULLY. LOL

Next time you're feeling down, darlin', read this (below). My cousin sent it
to me during my unemployment/depression, and it's amazing how many times I
remember the first three lines....

1. At least 2 people in this world love you so much they would die for you.

2. At least 15 people in this world love you in someway.

3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you is because they want to be
just like you.

4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't like
you.

5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.

6. You mean the world to someone.

7. If not for you, someone may not be living.

8. You are special and unique.

9. Someone that you don't even know exists, loves you.

10. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good comes from it.

11. When you think the world has turned its back on you, take a look: you
most likely turned your back on the world.

12. When you think you have no chance of getting what you want, you probably
won't get it, but if you believe in yourself, probably, sooner or later, you
will get it.

13. Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude
remarks.

14. Always tell someone how you feel about them; you will feel much better
when they know.

15. If you have a great friend, take the time to let them know that they are
great.

Stacey

P.S. #14 & 15 - I love you and you ARE great

Aww, I'll have to remember that. When's his birthday?
