This exchange also appears in the thread, "How loud does your cat
purr?" but I think it deserves its own posting because of Matthew, and
others like him.

It may be a long story, but it's a worthy one. I'm glad to hear about
someone taking action against one of those b------s who deserve not
only everyone's contempt (which they already have), but swift kicks in
the jeans and hopefully, fines and/or imprisonment for such
unbelievably cruel and heartless deeds. Two of our three cats were
abandoned, and we know of many more whose fate was less fortunate. Good

on you, Matthew.

I will tell it to you if you would like here we go. Get some popcorn and a
drink they could make this into a movie it would sell.

October 3; which I consider Rumble's birthday,seven years ago almost 8
years. We were still living in our old house and I was outside washing our
cars. It was a beautiful day typical Florida fall day not to hot just
right and a lot of sunshine. Our neighborhood was small everyone knows
every one. I noticed a beat up station wagon driving up and down the road;
there had been some home invasion a couple streets over so my flags were up.
I was watching this station wagon it had drove up and down about 6 times
when he passed me about a block away. The piece of sh@t threw something out
the windows it was small and grey. All I heard was a noise I can only
describe it as a death scream. If you ever heard it, it would chill you
right to the bone. I never want to hear anything like that ever again as
long as I live.
I screamed at the top of my lungs for my wife. She came running out
along with some of my neighbors. I ran up to where to happened followed by
my wife. I saw it was a kitten it ran into the woods. I told my wife find
the cat, call the cops. I ran back to my car jumped in and tore out of the
driveway. My old community there was only one way in one way out. I came
around the curves about 80, on the phone with the police telling them what
happened. I caught up to the SOB and ran his car off the road. I jumped
out hit the panic button for onstar, left the phone open with 911. I told
the SOB to get out of the car he refused. Now I am not like this at all
please don't take me as being like this. I was wrong for taking it to this
level but 3 things in the world will set me off animal abuse, child
molesters and wife beaters. I smashed his driver's window pulled him out
and started to beating the living crap out of him. Off course there is an
audience by now, multiple phone calls to 911, the car jacking alarm I set
off. The police were very quick to respond along with the paramedics.
When the got there I was still beating this guy. They pulled me off
threw me in cuffs. About this time my neighbors arrived along with my wife.
One of my neighbors was a deputy sheriff. He told the cops what happened.
At this time my wife came up and showed me and the officers what he had
thrown out the window. It was little grey fur ball about 4 to 5 weeks old
and scared so bad he was shaking like he was going to have a heart attack.
The cop was confronted by everyone telling them what this a@@hole did. He
took me out of the cuffs pulled the guy out of the ambulance. He threw him
in cuffs and told him he was an animal lover and you made the biggest
mistake by having me as the arresting officer. The cop made sure he met the
door on the way into the back of the car. It turned out the cop was a k9
officer and rescue worker for abused animals.
My wife hand me this bundle of fur scared out of its mind. It took one
look at me and meowed. I held it close to my heart I began to cry like a
baby. The little one calmed down and started to purr so loud that the
officer from 20 feet away said that little on sure can rumble. I named him
Rumble that moment crying like a baby. I fell in love with him the moment
he curled up in my hands and went to sleep. I took him to my vet later
that day he was completely uninjured. Rumble was lucky he landed in high
grass that cushioned his fall. He was so young that the jaw had not fully
set out all the way and he was definitely the runt.
Well we come to the a@@hole. He wanted charges pressed against me the
cop told him he interviewed everyone and the only witness he had were to the
fact that he committed animal abuse. As for me as a concerned citizen
attempting to contact the police with proper information on his crime did
nothing wrong since no one would say a word on what happened at the scene.
In fact with me activating my car jacking alarms tended to show him as a
criminal. It turned out he has several misdemeanors warrants for his arrest
which the cop promptly did.
It took me, the humane society, several police officers and several
support groups to convince the state attorney to press felony charges. He
felt the man have had sort of to say cowboy justice already done. None of
us were satisfied it took almost a year to bring it about but we did. When
he went in front of the judge for sentencing we all were there including
rumble. The judge ( a cat lover and member of the Cat society) gave him 3
years for the animal abuse; this is the max sentence which almost never
happens in any case. The man's also got sentence to 4 years for everything
else. A 7 year sentence with 10 years of probation, a writ of never owning a
animal again or working with animals. He was able to have a parole hearing
at 3 years. Now something happened to rumble in between this which is
below. I was there with Rumble along with everyone else told the whole
story. Parole was denied completely. He gets out next year. I can wait to
thank him for a wonderful cat and thank him properly from Rumble. He has
tried to sue me from jail Florida has a law against lawsuits that involved
injury resulting from you committing a crime. So no problems there.
Thinking about it now I could have lost everything. Would I do it again IN
A HEARTBEAT

Now the other part of the story see Rumble is epileptic. He takes 2
diazepam 2mg twice a day. On October 3 his 3rd birthday another day my
life stood still. I was in our new house. In my hobby room. Rumble cries
for us when he can't find one of us. I yelled at him I am in here he came
running in meowed very loudly I turned and looked at him. He looked at me
and collapsed in to a seizure. I can't explain the feeling of helplessness
and dread that I felt but anyone who has had a loved one been hurt and there
was nothing you can do knows this feeling. I touched rumble still in
disbelief he came around looked at me with a look I can only describe as
WTF. He stood up cried once and went into another seizure. I can only
describe this moment as time stood still. It felt like in one step I
grabbed Rumble and was out the door screaming at my wife to help me.
I was in the car before I felt my other foot touch the ground. My vet
office is exactly 20 minutes away. I made it 6. I turn my flashers on,
turned my emergency strobes on. I drew the attention of two police officers
which when I stopped I yelled at them I had an emergency and had to get
medical help and drove off. I drove like a bat out of hell. Flew into the
vets office followed by the police. When I ran into the office I was in
tears so bad I could not even talk. My vet which has been a family friend
for so many years thought my DW or one of our kids had died the way I was
acting. I was so upset they could not even tell them what happened. The
cops were trying to cuff me, The vet was tring to get a hold of the
situation. At the moment rumble screeched, collapsed and had another
seizure. It stopped us all dead cold. My vet grabbed a nurse and started
treating rumble and the police officers heard and saw what heppened. They
started to calm me down. Both officers stayed with me talking to me calming
me down. My DW arrived a little while later and the police sat with both of
us being friends not cops. Both understood I did get a warning out of it.
They called and stopped by to see how rumble was doing even game me an
escort when I had to take rumble back and forth to the vet. I am happy to
say the cops that were involved with all these incidents are now close
family friends and work in the shelter with us.
Rumble went thru hell the next year. He is allergic to Phenobarbital
which is standard treatment it almost killed him. The drug was making him
ripped his face off. He was digging so bad that it was going down to the
bone. I thought I was going to have to put him to sleep.tears My vet did
not rest till he found a solution. It cost us around $10,000 after we were
all done and said from all the test, the specialist. Flying to the best
vets in the USA to find out what we could do. It came down to diazepam 2x 2
mg a day. He still gets the itches where he starts to dig or licks the fur
off to the skin. He gets a cortisone ( depo ) for it. It took along time
for him to get back to normal. We have to watch his kidneys and liver since
the medicine can destroy them in a cat. Twice a year he gets full blood
work up full panel test to make sure. SO FAR SO GOOD. He has become a
extremely vocal cat. Talks to me and momma all the time. He wants to know
where we are he will yowl till someone answers him. He is a spoiled brat
now and I would not have it any other way.
When the parole board found out that the thrown form the car probably
caused the epilepsy that was it took. I can't wait to say hello to him
again

He turns 8 on Oct 3 this year. He has been fighting his disease for almost
5 years and doing great. This might sound strange but I love him and all my
furballs with my heart and soul. I would do anything for them. If I had to
loss everything to save them I would without even thinking about it so would
my family.

Well there Rumble's story can you tell he thinks he is cute

Matthew, that's an inspiring, terrifying and reassuring story -
reassuring in that there are people in the world like you who'll go the
whole distance for a helpless animal. You have enormous courage, and
more people should take a stand as you did. I've never seen a newsgroup
story like this one. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. I'd like to
have your permission to forward it to "Flippy", a woman in Australia
who operates a very popular cat-related website and mailing list.

Flippy already knows this story if I am correct I have told it a few times
to this group. Most of the regulars know it already
I have told it under a different display names either No More Retail or NMR
now Matthew aka NMR.
The email address attached to the post is false to keep the trolls and
spammers away
But you are more than welcome to forward it you would like. It is a story
that I am proud of, ashamed for what I did but I know in my heart it was
right thing to do but thinking about it now I should have gone a different
way but If I had to do it again I know I would do the same thing. But Damn
it felt good and right to kick the crap out of this guy that is what I am
ashamed of

Default Matthew's abandoned kitty

I have litteraly rescued all our cats this is all three of mine at peace for
once
http://tinypic.com/view/?pic=rsgzo3 Phantom, Rumble, Spirit we have 2
more dumpling and limo but they are my DW

Spirit http://tinypic.com/view/?pic=j9u1k4 I rescued from a hawk who had
him pinned down and was going in for the kill. This little kitten was
giving the hawk all he got. I took a log and threw it at the hawk striking
it square grabbed the kitten and ran for the house. The hawk had peirced
his back and ripped off the hair on his tail where it has nerve damage to
the point that he has to move his whole butt to wag his tail. He acts like
a boston terrier he is a little devil. He is almost 4

http://tinypic.com/view/?pic=j9tveh this is phantom I rescued him from the
construction site of one of our stores. He was at the site along with other
litter mates. He climb out of the box they had him in to get to me and
would not stay in the carrier He had to get to me no matter what. he is
still like that he is almost 12

Dumplin is along hair black half main coon half persian mix. Big old
hairball we rescued him from some boys that were beating him with sticks.
We believe he was sexual molested by a man before when a man has the smell
of sex about him he goes crazy. We found out the hard way
http://i3.tinypic.com/xemo9x.jpg he is about 9 or 10

Limo is a black and white bundle of spoiledness she is about 7 o 8 we found
her when a ordered a limo for a night out and here was this little kitten in
the back. we thanked the driver for the extra package paid him and stayed
home making sure she was comfortable http://i2.tinypic.com/xemtfm.jpg here
she is taking over Rumbles favorite spot being queen of the house

Sure, here's what I wrote to Flippy:

"On my suggestion, Matthew, a contributor to the
rec.pets.cats.anecdotes newsgroup told me this long but fascinating
story of what he did when he saw someone hurl a kitten from his
vehicle. It moved me deeply, and I got his permission to send it to
you. He says you already know it, quote: " Flippy already knows this
story if I am correct I have told it a few times to this group. Most
of the regulars know it already I have told it under a different
display names either No More Retail or NMR now Matthew aka NMR. But

Here's Matthew's story, about Rumble, the kitten he rescued from the
unspeakable person who abandoned him. And about the heroic lengths to
which Matthew has gone to give Rumble the life he deserves. I hope you
can pass it on to others.

Your story followed, as you wrote it.
