There is a sparrowhawk sitting in my garden chomping on something.

I was in the sitting room and could hear birds squarking like mad in the
garden. I looked out the window and thought "What the?????"

There it was, at the edge of the lawn, by the base of a fence panel.. male
sparrowhawk!

Cheers, helen s

A few weeks ago, I rescued a collard dove from a sparrow hawk. I saw the
sparrow hawk swoop down and a puff of feathers, I didn't realise it was
still there when I went to look, the hawk flew off leaving the dove on the
ground. I picked up the dove to see how badly it was hurt and it flew away
out of my hand.

I've seen that before, the first blow is a stunning one, and often breaks
the neck of the victim, the dove that was attacked three feet in front of me
a few years ago died instantly, but to no avail, the hawk hadn't noticed us
approaching down the lane and when it finally spotted us it flew away.
They're fascinating creatures.

That's good. The female sparrowhawk that haunts my garden strikes down
collared doves and plucks and eats them alive. I hate it.
I wouldn't have a problem with it if they were dead first, but they aren't.
I realise sparrowhawks eat birds, and need to eat but for them to pluck and
eat them alive is too much for my tender heart :-(
