shocks from mice? (OT)

I am losing my mind, or are there other people who sometimes feel electrical
hits in the hand from the computer's mouse.

Please, folks, don't be kind and say you have felt this if you have not. Be
honest. I need to know if it's time to call the guys in the white coats to
come and take me away to the funny farm.

I don't think that weird at all. It's an electrical object....something
is probably wrong somewhere and you *are* getting shocked.

Or maybe you've got a little nerve damage or something in your hand. I
think both explanations are quite possible.

I think this is probably more likely than than real shocks. I don't
think the mouse runs on much electricity. Of course, if there's some
kind of short, then there might be more electricity than there's
supposed to be.

But minor nerve damage, or even pinched nerves, can give you sensations
similar to electric shocks. After, all, it *is* electricity in your nerves,
that's not travelling the right way when there's damage. I sometimes get
a sensation of something small and sharp, like a pin, poking me in the
leg, and I'll think an insect is on me and biting me, but when I look,
there's nothing there. I do have some pinched nerves in my back, which
occasionally send sparks down the nerves in my leg. The pain or discomfort
might not be where the damage or pinching is, either, because nerve pain
can be "referred" to another location.

Might be good to get that looked at if you keep feeling that.

to put under their desks/computer chairs to reduce static electricity. Also
anti-static cloths to use to wipe down monitors, computer mice and
keyboards.

I used to get shocks from the fillings in my teeth. The dentist ran a
wire from my tooth to the radiator in his office to discharge the static
electricity. I know this sounds weird, but it worked.

That's right. I had this weird neuropathy pain in my leg after surgery.
It felt *exactly* like an electrical shock.

This is not an unusual problem, and there are even grounded mouse pads that
are sold to eliminate static electricity. You can find many on the
Internet. Here is one example:
