Scratchin post, carpet or just wood?
I see these very expensive scratching posts at Petsmart.
I was thinking of making my own. Does carpet really provide a scratching post for the cats? These things they sell look like fun toys for the cat but do they really provide a scrathin post. I thought they do that to sharpen and clean their claws. Would a soft wooden post be a better choice? I dont see any made of just wood. Some had rope wrapped around which seemed a better idea the carpet. Your thoughts appreciated. TY |

TY Dyna likes the rounds of corregated cardboard a lot (some nip rubbed on it helps to get her started) They are fairly inexpenive too. She also likes the sisal rope post. She doesn't like her nails cut, and the posts don't help with that. SM |

truth is Dyna, I had every intention of getting Miss Violette's claws stolen
when I got fixed what wasn't broken on her. Before we did that furry and I looked on the net and were so horrified at what furry saw we did not let the ted steal her claws or TV or OEJ's either. Since I had not discouraged them very much from scratching thinking I would get new furniture after their claws were stolen, I blew it. The loss of some furniture was a small price to pay for such a lesson though. Soft Sylvia M wrote in message ink.net... Do yu meen reeelll furnishur, ur kitty furrnishur, Anti Soft? I lucked out, Anaïs is such a good girl - she doesn't damage anything! I
live in a pre-war apartment with hardwood floors, and only one rug - an IKEA cheapie. Wouldn't you know, she uses it, and it alone to "unsheath" her old claws, and that's just fine with me. She's never used the furniture, or - thank Bast - the waterbed. -- Sonam anais+at+electric-ink+dot+com Miss Violette wrote: truth is Dyna, I had every intention of getting Miss Violette's claws stolen when I got fixed what wasn't broken on her. I have heard that many kitties don't use the carpet ones. Most prefer
something roughish to work their claws on, someething they can shred-- a wooden post with some rope wrapped around would give two choices for your kitty. It's best to get one when you first introduce your cat to the house so that it doesn't bond w/ the furniture but instead the post. i got mine too late and although he loves to work his post, he still occassionally touches the furniture. I am still working on cutting his claws too. He's a big feisty young one, not properly handled as a kitten. 14 lbs of mus-cle. |
