Actually, it does take some care to be sure the light does not shine in the
cat's eyes because the cat will sometimes run directly toward the light as it is deflected on the floor. All it takes is a little care in angling the light away. Holly absolutely loves her laser. She bounds into my lap as soon as I reach for the drawer (in a chest beside my chair) where I keep "her" laser light. She has lots of fun and gets lots of exercise; I have lots of fun and get to remain a couch potato through the process! MaryL That's what I liked so much about it. Cherokee was old, and overweight, and just didn't play a whole lot or get much exercise. But he'd still chase that red dot. Sherry |

The cats will think it's under your foot. Then, put your hand down and bring the spot into your hand and quickly close it (again, turning off the laser at that instant). The cat will think you *caught* the spot in your hand. Then, as the cat intently stares at your hand, mystified, reach over, open your hand and let it out on *them* (it's a bit tricky, because you must put the laser where you want it before turning it on, then you must turn it on the exact moment your hand begins to open). And, if you really want to confound your cat, give the spot a name, get the cat used to it, then "call" your spot and have it come to you when called. Gently pick it up and put it in your shirt pocket. By this time, your cat is totally baffled, and starting to get a complex. He will probably be giving "it" / you some very strange looks. Now, to completely unnerve your cat, take your spot over to the cat's food bowl and let it down to "eat". Talk to it just like you do your cat when feeding it. The cat will get jealous and think he's been replaced by this little "red flea". The better you control your laser, the more convincing the illusion. When you get tired of playing with the cat and spot, establish a "home" for your spot. Under a sofa cushion is good. Take your spot and "put it to bed" there. After a few times, you can ask your cat if he wants to see if spot is awake, and he'll probably go and wait for you to lift up the cushion. One amusing place to put the spot is right straight under them. They will either be backing up, or spinning in circles trying to catch it. If you turn the spot off at the precise moment they pounce on it, they'll think they *caught* it. As they slowly lift their paw, turn spot on and make it run away again. I'll never forget when my cat actually lifted up her paw and looked on the bottom to see if the spot was stuck there! Abstract idea: Make a little kitty helmet with a laser pointer attached, pointing about three feet ahead of the cat. How far would the cat go before the battery died??? Maybe needs warning label: "Not for outdoor use"? Then, you could in effect, "turn the cat on or off". *hehe* ) Gary Never a dull moment in your house... |

I have another use for it. It makes a great diversion when one cat is getting aggressive with another and you divert the aggressor away from the other and he soon forgets he was going to attack. I've also had to start using it when Shamrock attacks my legs when I walk past him. Sometimes he doesn't let me leave a room (clamps on to my legs hard!) so on good advise, I started carrying the laser pointer with me and divert him away from my legs when I'm walking. Oh, yeah. Makes a great toy too! -- Cheryl It's also good for pointing out bugs you want your cat to destroy. ) Gary -----= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =----- http://www.newsfeeds.com - The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! -----== Over 80,000 Newsgroups - 16 Different Servers! =----- |

I have a pic in my webshots album of him on the top of the cat tree scouring the ceiling for a teensy tiny spider. Too funny! -- Cheryl "If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough." -Mario Andretti. Yeah, mine spot bugs that way, too, except... the ones I'm trying to point out that they didn't see! (slow moving bugs). As with dogs, it's virtually impossible to point something out to them by hand; they always end up looking AT your hand. ) Gary -----= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =----- http://www.newsfeeds.com - The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! -----== Over 80,000 Newsgroups - 16 Different Servers! =----- |
