Default Infected pads

Hi,
I saw this on a forum and though someone here might know what it is .

* She has something that is making the very edge of her paws turn dark
and they are infected. The very centre of the pad is healthy with no
marking or afflication at all. This condition is affecting every foot
and just around the very edges of the pads. Antibiotics are helping
dry the infection up, but does anyone know what this condition may
be?*

Could be a form of cancer, if it keeps occuring. We had a cat in the
vet who would not permanently resolve upon treatment - pads always
sore and infected - finally did a biopsy and it came back a weird from
of cancer. rare, but it does happen.
