"Jo Firey" wrote Around here you have to give fair warning if you feed the cats nip. They tend to bite and scratch when they are buzzed. Frank here is also a "mean drunk" and tends to attack Nikki when he's had a hit, so I don't give them catnip that often. Frank usually both rolls in it and eats some of it, Nikki's not as interested, though she will rub herself in it a little. -- Marina, Frank and Nikki Email marina (dot) kurten (at) pp (dot) inet (dot) fi Pics at http://uk.f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/frankiennikki |

(And actually, catnip-filled toys seem to make a much bigger hit with all of mine, so far.) All our cats gobble it up, roll in it, on it, etc. We grow it in the yard, and usually they don't bother it our there. Only when we pinch off a bit an crush it. Then they get really excited. Dried catnip has the scent but doesn't seem as edible. Especially as they include some pretty woody bits of stem, etc. That may explain it - my cats have never experienced any but the dry kind. My one attempt to grow the stuff (in a pot) fell victim to the lack of sunlight in my apartment - I got a "grow" light, but it didn't seem to be enough. |

Imp will sniff it with a "what's this?" attitude, but then he'll walk
away uninterested. ONE time I had this towel on the floor with catnip on it, i did catch him rolling in it, but since then I haven't seen him have any interest or reactions Mischief on ther other hand, it depends. There are days she doesn't care, and then there are days where she starts rubbing her face in it. I remember the first time I gave her a catnip mouse, she rubbed her face ALL over it, it was drenched with kitty drool and part of the tail was missing. Recently I bought a catnip plant. Missy sniffed it, but then went back to sniffing and chewing my roommate's bouquet of flowers. Imp on the other hand will spend time sniffing it, but he's not sure what to do. I almost wish they reacted to catnip more. Kristi |

Vino would be most like Cleopatra. He immediately snarfs down as much as
possible, then lays on the remainder and looks very relaxed and satisfied. -- Britta Check out pictures of Vino at: http://photos.yahoo.com/badwilson click on the Vino album "Dan M" wrote in message news For the last couple of months Amelia has feeling very put-upon by the large number of kittens in the house (she seems to think that two kittens is two kittens too many). She's generally been expressing her displeasure with occasional bitchy-cat hisses at Sammy and Tabitha, but this morning she decided she needed a little more attention than usual and that she REALLY wanted some catnip. Within a minute of opening the container of catnip I was surrounded - all 4 kitties decided that catnip sounded like a good idea. I was fascinated by their different styles of enjoying it. Sammy kitten sniffed it and rolled around in it. He tried a taste or two, decided he didn't care for the taste, and resumed rolling his head in it. Tabitha kitten sniffed it, started drooling, then rolled in it so energetically that she looked a black catnip toy. Within a minute of her starting to roll, the paper towel her catnip serving was on with drenched with kitty drool. Cleopatra was more reserved - she sniffed it, rolled her neck fur in it a little bit, then snarfed it all down. She seems to love the taste more than anything else. Amelia sniffed it deeply, rolled her head and neck in it a little, sniffed some more, ate some, then alternated between sniffing and eating. She seemed to enjoy the smell and the taste equally. How about your kitties? How do they like to partake of catnip, if they care for it at all? Dan |

Jasper will snarf fresh catnip up in seconds. Carrie couldn't care less
about the stuff. I think I've seen her eat a leaf once, and then leave the rest of the stem. Have anyone's cats had bad reactions to catnip stomach-wise? A work colleague gave her cat some catnip treats, which he loved. However, the resultant litter tray was somewhat less than lovely; the catnip gave poor Tiggy a serious case of the runs! -- Cathi |

Dakota snarfs it, rolls around in it, then jumps up to where Apache's helping is and steals that too. -- Jette Goldie Apache and Dakota http://www.jette.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/kitties.html |

They do, no joke. My sister's cats don't sniff and roll at all, they just settle down and eat if they are given catnip. They do this both with fresh and dried nip. As I mentioned before, Frank does roll around in it, but then he eats it, both fresh and dry. You can't hide it anywhere that he doesn't find it. I bought a catnip mouse at a cat show once, and forgot about it till I saw him digging around in my purse! Sherry |
