"Magic Mood Jeep©" dumped this in
news:PXVpc.64033$z06.8770808@attbi_s01 on 16 May 2004:

My vet said NOT to use the Dawn (or any other dish detergent) when
using a flea comb on kittens - it might make them sick. You may not
think so, but they do lick each other while they're all cuddled up in
their nest.

Thanks for the correction. I didn't know this.

Eeek! I wouldn't do that without consulting a vet. And I still wouldn't
do it. Advantage is meant to dispurse across a cat's skin via the oil
glands. Soaking it into the bedding only presents a highly toxic area for
a newborn to crawl across or worse suckle.

My newborn kittens have fleas! I've treated the mother with Advantage.
Would the little kitties die if I put just one drop on them? I know the
directions say only for kittens over six weeks.

You can put a couple of drops on the bedding around them. I also use a tiny
flea comb and comb/pluck the fleas off of them.

You need to find a safe way to get rid of the fleas quickly. If you
don't, the fleas will take so much blood from the kittens that they will
die. What does the vet recommend?

Double eek. I wouldn't do it either. The only surefire safe method IMO is the
"pick and squish" method. It's time-consuming, but it can be done. Get a flea
comb, and plan to spend a fair amount of time picking them off by hand.

Absolutely. Flea anemia can kill a newborn kitten very fast. The OP might
check the color of thekittens' mouths and make sure they aren't anemic already.
