On Wednesday morning I took off and went to Bangkok. I got home on Friday
evening. Vino was happy to see me, as usual. We had a happy reunion with
lots of hugging and purring, and of course Vino got a yummy snack. After
the snack he zoomed around the house like a maniac, bouncing off the walls
and thundering up and down the stairs.

Cats are so quick to forgive, as I see at times when a careless tail is

upon here.

You don't know Apache then - she has a very long
memory.

At bedtime, we had a great cuddle session. Vino made me scritch his
chin and cheeks with one hand while rubbing his belly with the other.
He was lolling and writhing and stretching all over the place in
obvious enjoyment. Later on I was lying on my stomach with my chin
resting on my pillow, watching Vino during his nightly bath.
Suddenly Vino stopped and looked straight at me with big round eyes.
I looked back and said: "Hi!" and then he really quickly zoomed his
head out and gave me a big headbutt before settling in for the night
:-)

I sure hope this is the case with Persia. I'm going to leave her at the
vet's for 6 nights and she will NOT be happy with me. But maybe she'll be
happy when I bring her back home. And as exuberant as Vino!

Jill

I had similar excitement from my cats when I got home from a 4 day hospital
stay in December, Mind you my two companions seem to be reasonably excited
when I come home from a days work - or is it the possibiliy of supper being
right near.

As for vet stays and that has only involved Peepers so far, I end up
insisting that the vet gives me an examining room after the first night at
the end of the day and I will sit there petting him and just trying to
comfort him (or me?) for up to an hour a night. Sometimes I wonder when I
do that if I'm really comforting him or upsetting him because I still have
to leave him there for another night or two.

My Smudge has a pretty good memory on that kind of thing herself. On those
occasions when it has happened, I can't get near her while I'm upright. She
does come to me though after my feet go up on the ottoman.

Well Larry, I don't have a choice. Got a plane to catch to meet my long
lost love; can't sit there with Persia hoping to comfort her. But thanks
for sharing info about Peepers

I'll bet Dennis gets enthusiastic greetings from Vino, too!

Jazz gives us a look like 'oh, you were gone?; whenever we get home from
more than a day away from home. But later on, he will stick next to me like
glue for a day or two.

Yes, I hope so. Vino has never held a grudge against us for going away.
He's always so happy to see us and really shows it. With Dennis' 6 week
absences this past year, he's not dealing quite as well. It's now taking
him a few days to remember who Dennis is :-( But I'm sure Persia won't
forget you in 6 days. And I bet she'll be so glad to be home and have all
that space too!

Well, it's getting less enthusiastic every time Dennis leaves. The 6 weeks
away are making Vino seem to forget who Dennis is for a few days. But after
he's been home for a while, then Vino remembers him. It's sad really, I
feel really bad for Dennis too. But we have hopes that after this trip to
Florida, when he gets his promotion, they will use him here at home again,
or at least in Songkhla (South Thailand). If he goes to Songkhla, I will go
down to visit for 2 weeks out of every 6 and take Vino with me. It's only a
1 hour flight and only costs $10 to take a cat in the cabin.
Only 10 days to go until Dennis gets back this time...YAY!!!

Remember when Jeanette fostered Maddie kitten? She said that when she
visited her new home a few weeks later, Maddie didn't recognize her
until she made a friendly sound. Maybe Dennis can establish a certain
routine, like playing with a particular toy, or giving Vino a
particular snack, that would make the little lightbulb in Vino's head
turn on a bit faster. Smell is also supposed to be a strong
trigger for memory.

That sounds great for Dennis, and it would be fun for you, too.
