I just seen this virus posted to alt.binaries.pictures.animals, and I'm
still being sent about 70 copies a day, all deleted from the server thanks
to Email Remover which Learned about from this NG.

keeps the charges for minutes of on-line time down to a minimum.

If you want to know how to configure Outlook Express to download your

I would find that useful as well, could you post it?

For the moment, I've set OE not to download and to delete off the

server
any
message from my Yahoo server thats over 100kb big,

Yowie

That's a great idea. How do you set Yahoo to delete any message over

100kb?
I haven't been able to find that option. I have checked preferences and
various other settings, but can't find anything relating to maximum

size.

You can't set Yahoo to delete messages over 100kb, but you can set OE (and

Yes, I would very much appreciate the information, either posted here or by
private email.

Thanks!

I'm sick of this, too. 116 today :-( It doesn't seem to be slowing
down for me.

I tried contacting my ISP about this, and they were no help. The one
helpful thing they did was send me to mail2web.com, and I was very
happy to see I could delete mail from the server without downloading
it. The very next day, that site had changed from free,
no-registration, no-cookies, to a register and use cookies site (which
I don't do). :-(

I'm in a bind. I can't use Earthlink's stuff, because I have Netscape
4.72. Upgrading would be a huge PITA, because I'm on a slow dial-up.
At this point, I'm afraid if I upgraded to Netscape 7.1, it wouldn't
even work, because I am still using Windows 95. I tried downloading
Mailwasher, and got a missing DLL message. I even went out and got
Norton Anti-Virus 2004 -- before noticing it will not work with Win95,
and you have to have recent versions of just about everything for it
to work.

When will these people realize that not all of us have the kind of
money to go out and upgrade whole systems yearly??? Besides, I like
Win95 and Netscape 4.72; they are relatively stable. How dare they
force me to upgrade when I'm happy with what I have???

So here I am stuck, with a 2.1 gig hard drive that keeps getting
filled up, wasting hours downloading these damn things. I can't
change my e-mail, because I use it professionally, too. I am at a
loss, frustrated, and ready to scream.

Sorry for venting.

I would suggest two things. First is AVG Antivirus this is a very good
free antivirus. Its probably as good or better than Norton. It has a
pay and free version for home use.

http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl7.php

Second, build a filter and block the messages. You can do this two ways.
Every time a different message shows up start a new rule for that
message. Most of them are repeats. The second way is create a rule and
block anything over 120k. It will block innocent messages as well so its
not as elegant. But if you don't normally get large e-mails its probably
worth it. If you do get a lot of them the most efficient way to delete
them is to sort your mail by size if you can or sort for attachements
first.

I would not bounce them if you already have downloaded them. Just
generates more traffic on the server and its probably a false address so
your just propagating the virus.

One of the mail list I'm on suggested a program called mailwasher. It
connects to your server and let's you preview all your e-mail before you
download it. One of the best features is it let's you bounce back e-mails.
I've been using it a couple of weeks and the amount of spam has really
decreased. Here's the URL:

Mine has slowed down also -- I'm getting 20 or fewer now a day and the

other
interesting aspect of this is that I'm not having to delete the usual
Brazilian spam I get stuck with -- maybe the virus is clogging the

spammers,
too.
Christine

I noticed the same thing. I'm only getting about 4 a day now, but NO

offers to
buy Viagra online, no Nigerian money-laundering offers, nobody wants to
refinance my house. No spam at all. That's really odd.

Thanks, John! AVG is downloaded and installed -- hope it works!

I have filters set up, and have added a bunch of new ones.
Unfortunately, I can't seem to block the messages; just delete them.
So I still have to download them. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? I
have Netscape 4.72. There is a button relating to the server, but it
appears to be dead, so I may have something corrupt in my copy of
Netscape.

Back to the drawing board . . . .

Ginger-lyn
