OT - Surgery Date Set

... "CatNipped" wrote in message ... Ah well, as always seems the case with me, things are a bit more complicated than we first thought - but still better than before. After looking at the MRI, the neurosurgeon thinks that the surgery will be a bit more extensive than he first thought. I'll be put under general anesthesia (which means a bunch of pre-op testing and another half-day off work), and I'll have to stay in the hospital at least overnight. I think he may do an anterior cervical fusion - which means he'll fuse the two vertebrae together instead of just removing the overgrown and remove the whole disk instead of part of it. My work doesn't seem to want me to take PTO - not that I have enough left anyway to pay for my time off - they want me to go out on "disability" (for just two weeks??!), so that means more forms to fill out. The up side is I'll get paid at 2/3 my salary - YAY. So good and bad - and I'm tending to look at it more as good since just relieving the pain will be like a birthday and Christmas present all wrapped in one. The tentative date is September 5. Lots of luck with it. I have have lots of surgery, unfortunately. a) do not underestimate the pain you might experience b) do not believe the doctors when they say "you will be back to work in x time" They only perform the operation, they haven't had one themselves. It will vary. Tweed Yep, you are very correct about that - if a doctor tells you "this might be a little uncomfortable" start running for the hills because you know you're going to be in agony! ; I've been hearing / reading different accounts about this surgery. Some people say that the pain in the neck/shoulder/arm/wrist/hand goes away immediately; and some people say that the nerve becomes inflamed from the surgery or from the previous pressure and it takes a while for it to heal. In either case, if the end result is less pain, I'll be happy. And when are *you* going to see your surgeon about fixing the hernia??! I know you're hesitant to ask your friends and neighbors for help, but I'm sure they would understand and be glad to help you out again - it's not like you're asking them to do it every month so you can go on holiday, you need surgery FGS!!! stopping fussing - I only do because I love you Hugs, CatNipped |

"CatNipped" wrote in message ... And when are *you* going to see your surgeon about fixing the hernia??! I'm not going to. We did it once with a 50 per cent chance it would work and it did for a few months but it failed eventually. Now the chance it will work again is 20 per cent. It was horribly painful and I don't want to go through it again, TBH. Before I was even out of the door after my last examination, the specialist gynae surgeon was talking into his tape machine to instruct his secretary what to write to my doctor. I heard it all. "she might have to learn to live with it." was what stuck in my mind. It's a shame he didn't sew me up properly is all I can say. know you're hesitant to ask your friends and neighbors for help, but I'm sure they would understand and be glad to help you out again - it's not like you're asking them to do it every month so you can go on holiday, you need surgery FGS!!! stopping fussing - I only do because I love you I know you do, and I'm grateful for it. Thanks. Tweed |

It was horribly painful and I don't want to go through it again, TBH. Oh, well in that case I certainly don't blame you for not wanting to go through it again for such a slim chance of success!!! I'm so sorry it can't be fixed, though, that must be awful to live with! {{{{{Tweed}}}}} Does it cause you a lot of pain? Do you guys have pain management clinics there? My doctors keep urging me to go to one, but I know from the get-to that I'm not going to take pain medications and that's a big part of their "therapy". Is there a "truss" (honestly not sure quite what that is, but I've heard the term somewhere before) you could get that might be able help you to wear during daily chores? I know living alone makes it super hard when you're not 100% physically well - nobody to chuff off chores to so it's all down to you. Before I was even out of the door after my last examination, the specialist gynae surgeon was talking into his tape machine to instruct his secretary what to write to my doctor. I heard it all. Thanks. Tweed Well I so wish there were something I could do! If you lived closer I could send Ben 'round to help you out (this is said with more than a bit of tongue in my cheek since you probably already know how, um, "ergonomically challenged" he is)! ; You do know that I'm here with a virtual shoulder for you any time you need it??! Fingers crossed and purrs being sent that it all goes well and relieves your pain, I have a busted shoulder or possibly neck that flares up from time to time and whilst it's nothing compared to yours (it's not continual and a massage every six weeks or so keeps it under control apart from the next day- the last time I had a massage I nearly went to work without a bra because doing it up was ...well hilarious...I had to ask Dave to do it for me and like all men his experience of bra's is trying to undo them..anyway about half way through the day it "clicked" and since then it's been fine) but it does really make me sympathise Lesley Slave of the Fabulous Furballs |

Thanks. Tweed I am having a hard time catching up after not being able to read "anecdotes" for four months. Also, now that my computer was reworked" I am not certain who the author is when I read a post - it's confusing. I take it that both you, Tweed" and "Catnipped" face surgery. I wish you both well and hope you have good recovery. I've had much more than my fair share and it is no fun.Best wishes. MLB |
