My mom was never a cat hater but she went through a similar process
when she went from "I can't have a dog here and cats just don't fill
that void" to loving and caring for three "generations" of cats in her
later years. Her last, my WooToo, she passed on to me. BTW, she never
lost her love of dogs. She just learned about cats.

I remember the phone call when she said "(a friend of hers whose name
I forget) said I should get a cat. What good is a cat? I miss my
little dog and they (heartless landlords) won't let me get another
one." She was almost cryiing. Then she got a cat. And then she got two
more. ETC.
