Default Sunday morning paper with cats

On Sun, 25 Feb 2007 11:29:02 -0600, Mark Edwards
yodeled:

I usually buy the "Early Sunday" paper on Saturday, when I go grocery
shopping. The bag with the paper in it sits on an end table until I
finally decide to read it on Sunday morning. Here's how that went this
morning:

I take the paper into the bedroom, and pull the paper out of the
grocery bag. I roll up the bag and hide it under a leg, or I will
never get it back. Dulce Mae sees a dangling, flapping (we have a fan
on) end of the bag, and sort of paws at it. She is considering her
options.

I separate the front page section out, open it up and lay it on the
bed for Dulce Mae. She likes to lay on the one section for the rest of
the day, and I am happy to oblige. If I take a nap, however, the
incessant crinkling noises color my sleep (grin).

I start pulling out the sections I am interested in - Metro, Business,
International and National, TV guide and coupons, and (of COURSE) the
comics (also, see Sunday's on topic Non-Sequitor cartoon at:
http://www.gocomics.com/nonsequitur/ - if you miss it, click on
previous until you get to the "Intelligent Design" strip).

I put the parts of the paper I don't want into a separate pile. Dulce
Mae decides to sit on that pile instead. The fan makes her section
wiggle a little, so she pounces it to the point of pushing it off the
bed. I hurriedly put the discarded sections into the grocery bag, lay
the bag on the bed, and retreive Dulce Mae's section of paper from the
floor.

Dulce Mae now pounces the undulating grocery bag full of paper, sits
on the bag, then turns around and pounces her section again. This
time, she lays down on her section and purrs.

Little Feet joins us on the bed, sitting close enough to pet. He curls
up and naps.

Little Boy now joins us as well. He walks up to me, presents his
pretty face for a kiss, then lays down on the unused half of Dulce
Mae's section. He is lying across her tail. Dulce Mae swishes the tip
of her tail in aggravation, and Little Boy slaps it playfully. No
fussing, so all is well.

As I read each of my sections, I stuff them into the grocery bag,
which makes the most interesting rustling and crinkling sounds. Little
Boy and Dulce Mae both swat at the bag to make it be quiet.

Finally, I finish my paper. Little Boy steps into my lap and sticks
his face up into my face, and we do some smurgling and hugging. He is
such a sweet boy.

Dulce Mae gets up for a few crunchies, and comes back to find Little
Boy stretched out on HER section. She stands and stares at him until
he gets up. Little Boy walks over to where Little Feet is napping and
starts grooming Little Feet.

Dulce Mae is now lying stretched out, completely covering her section
of paper. Everyone seems content. This is how Sunday morning is
supposed to be.

Hugs and Purrs,
Mark

I love the Sunday AM paper and cats routine, too. Alas, it's not been
part of my life for awhile, first because of the choir, and now
because I have to have a class on Sundays.
