Default Purrs Monday through Thursday, please

Pit2nya will be going in to Radio-Cats on Monday for radioactive iodine
treatment for her hyperthyroid. We'll be driving her back home on Thursday.
She will not be allowed in our bedroom for 2 weeks, but we can pet her,
albeit wash our hands more.

At least no 2 x per day pilling, a permanent cure, less regular lab work.
I've got her blanket and a couple of toys packed. They will offer food, but
I'm also sending what she's used to. The trip is only about 1/2 hour.

Thanks for all of your support through this experience!

Purrs and purrayers are on the way that the experience won't be too
traumatic for anybody (or anykitty) and that it works.

Isn't the point of radio-iodine treatment that it completely
obliterates thyroid activity? You still have to pill the cat
and get lab tests done, the difference is that thyroid hormone
supplements are less toxic than anti-thyroid medication.

I'll let you know, later.
My impression is the dosage is regulated to give enough to have the nodules
absorb the iodine and 'die' while not effecting the thyroid, leaving it
'healthy again'.However, my endocrinologist said it sometimes does more. Oh
well, que sera sera.

An update...halfway there...
I am getting phoned each day. So far the reports are that she's doing
fine.
We were worried about her sitting on or computer chairs or recliners, or on
our bed during the day. The answer was yes, we can sit down right after
her, no need to use and remove a towel, then wash it...just not to let her
onto lap or sleep with us when we get her back on Thursday, and not for 2
weeks thereafter...afterglow, ya know (-;
In the meantime I plastic-lined her scratch-boxes, and filled them with
flushable litter, awaiting her return. That's how she'll get rid of the
remaining radiation. I do miss her, the house seems empty, though my
husband is still here, he feels her absence too

Thanks for caring,

Sylvia.

We picked Pit2nya up today. She looks the same, meowed a bit more coming
home.
She's walking around, smelling everything, I guess to see that there hasn't
been an intruder cat ;-)
We'll be washing our hands more, after petting her for the next 2weeks,
then testing by her vet in one and in three months. I'm sure it will all
be fine.

Thanks for your support thought this ...ordeal? adventure?
learning experience, for sure.

Sylvia M
