Default Cats in the sun

Cats are like little heat-seeking missiles aimed at patches of
sunlight. Mooch our resident stray is no exception. When I left him a
few minutes ago after feeding him he jumped up on the veranda table
and began to soak up some rays. Here's a photo of our little
sunbather...

How about your cats? Are they sun-seekers too?

Sun seekers generally, but when the heat is on, they're
just as likely to be found on the registers. Makes 'em
easy to find, but doesn't help get the rooms heated all that
well!

Purrs for a wonderful start to 2010!

Absolutely, and they are none to thrilled with our endless gray
skies. Its fog season in our valley. When it isn't actually foggy,
its overcast. Not unusual between mid-November and the end of
January to go weeks without seeing the sun.

I have that problem with some of the smaller cats, but the big ones are so
heavily furred (and so fat) that they seek out cooler places right now.
Fortunately, the mud room is unheated and they hang out there when they
get overheated indoors. The sun was out today and a few of them went
outside, even though the temperature was around 14 F (-10 C) - Snooch
tried his hand^H^H^H^H^Hpaw at bird hunting again (he's hopeless at it -
doesn't know to stay perfectly still the way Chubby does).

I didn't plan it this way, but the tall cat tree is set up in just the
right place so that when the heat is on, the ceiling register is
blowing directly on the top level.

Guess where the Princess Rita can be found whenever the heat is
running? Yeah.

You obviously weren't wearing your tinfoil hat when you put it there. ;-)

I have got to ask- since the weather got cold a lot of people here
have mentioned their cats fondness for these registers- what are they?

Over here- Dunzi doesn't get out from under the sofa until the central
heating has been on at least 20 minutes on very cold mornings and then
she walks over to the living room radiator and sits down under it or
they both sit on their favourite warm spot- that;s where the radiator
in the hallway isn't far from the bathroom one and the pipe is pretty
near the surface between the two so there;s a large spot where the
floor is warm underfoot (or under butt in this case) and as an added
bonus in the morning any sun comes in through the bathroom window and
lands just there!

Just the name for a heat vent either on the floor or low on a wall. MLB

I guess your central heating may be different from here in the UK-
here the standard arrangement is a boiler that heats water then pumps
it through to on the wall radiators
