Default kitten food for older cat?

Sam, 13- 14 yrs old neutered female

I've always feed her dry and canned food, she gets 2 times a day

a friend of mine gave a box of kitten chow

I gave Sam some, she loves it..I've seen this type reaction for cat food in
long time (she is good eater)

then I started thiking about, maybe kitten food has too much vitamins and such
for an older cat

does anyone know if it's bad to give a senior cat kitten food?

lynn

Yes, it's a bad idea to feed a senior (or adult cat) kitten food. In fact, ANY
food that says "all life stages" in the AAFCO statement means that the food has
been formulated for kittens. Kittens have a higher requirement for certain
nutrients. Especially nutrients like phosphorus, sodium, etc. Older cats
don't need the same levels that kittens need and in facts feeding an older cat
these higher levels can put the cat at risk for various disease
conditions--heart disease, kidney disease, etc.
